There's truly nothing more relaxing than a day at the spa, unwinding and being pampered – it's a picture of tranquility. But why should you only enjoy that feeling once in a blue moon? For designers, it's a sense we should enjoy daily.

Which is why bathroom trends are all pointing towards spa-like spaces that imbue the same calm and serenity of a spa at home. It's about designing a space that appeals to all your senses and allows you to start and end your day in the most calming manner.

'The wellness trend has taken over right now from luxury hotels to home spas and gyms, and it’s increasingly shaping how we design bathrooms. Today’s bathrooms are envisioned as serene retreats, quiet, calming spaces where everything has its place,' says interior designer Jess Cooney.

It's about choosing decor and essentials with intention. The colors and materials you choose are crucial to creating that spa-like tranquility – natural materials like wood and marble, warm whites, light earth tones, and even hints of terracotta and mushroom hues strike the perfect balance between relaxing and luxurious.

'Clean-lined vanities, symmetrical layouts, and organic textures combine to create restorative environments that echo the spa experience. The emphasis is on calm proportion, natural light, and a restrained palette that supports nervous system regulation,' explains Rose Praino, Co-Founder and Creative Director of YDC Design.

A successful spa bathroom also hinges on careful consideration of the pieces you introduce, where they live, and how many items are on display. Clutter is the opposite of relaxing, so a calmly curated space is key to a design that promotes wellness.

Think elevated canisters for your everyday essentials, beautiful trays giving soaps, lotions, and fragrances a more curated look, and exquisitely crafted storage designs that bring another dimension to your bathroom, rather than being purely functional.

To help you curate a spa atmosphere in your bathroom, no matter the size or budget, we've curated an edit of essentials and little luxuries that will bring instant tranquility and thoughtful consideration to your space.

There are so many trends, materials, colors, and playful decor elements to explore and experiment with.
