I Thought I’d Have to Give Up Sleeping Under a Blanket All Summer – Then Cozy Earth Launched This Ingenious Breathable Layer
You won’t know how you ever survived August without it
Brimming with beach vacations and sidewalk spritzes, summer is fabulous by almost every measure – save for one very important detail: sleep. ‘It’s too hot,’ we mutter to ourselves, August, circa 3 a.m., kicking the covers off only to pull them back on five minutes later. Our bodies want to cool down; our brains, meanwhile, still insist on the ritual of bed sheets and blankets. Apparently, we're all just toddlers at bedtime.
Living in a central-AC-less Manhattan apartment myself, this dilemma is why I'm probably more excited than anyone about Cozy Earth’s new Cotton Gauze Throw. Ethereally airy and ultra-breathable, it offers the psychological comfort of sleeping under a blanket with less chance of overheating. It’s essentially the goldilocks-of-a-summer bedding layer we’ve been missing.
It doesn't hurt that this blanket is beautiful, either. Draped across the foot of a bed, it has a casually rumpled, coastal ease that makes this born-and-raised Californian feel right at home, even if I’m sweating my way through another New York summer.
Just take a look at that texture. Like a favorite beach button-down, this happy-medium layer, pictured here in Coconut, feels broken in from day one and only gets softer with every wash.
We already know Cozy Earth has a talent for texture. Chances are you’ve encountered – or perhaps already own – its viral Bubble Cuddle Blanket, which remains one of my favorite throws if you’re lucky enough to have actually efficacious air conditioning. Lighter, breezier, but no less cocooning, the Cotton Gauze feels like its warm-weather cousin. Personally, I’m so looking forward to retiring the awkward blanket-on, blanket-off routine during my next Real Housewives of *BLANK* couch marathon.
There’s no shortage of brands promising the ‘perfect’ lightweight summer throw. Yet despite testing bedding for a living, I didn’t actually own anything that solved this very specific summertime problem: wanting the comfort of a blanket without waking up sweaty. Until now.
More Summer-Friendly Bedding We Love
Obviously, the top layer is important. But if you’re working with the wrong sheets and pillowcases, you’re doing your summer self a disservice. Here’s what I’d pair the new blanket with.
Cozy Earth’s bamboo viscose is a favorite of mine throughout all four seasons, but come summer, I rue the day I have to strip my bed and take those luxuriously breathable sateen weave sheets in for a wash. I prefer them to linen for their cool-to-the-touch, moisture-wicking feel and elegant, silky drape – the ideal base layer.
Call me a snob, but I only sleep on silk pillowcases. Hypoallergenic and non-pulling, they’re kinder to both skin and hair, helping to minimize sleep creases and breakage. Plus, they’re always cool to the touch – important for all seasons, but especially in summer. I’m loving how their lustrous sheen looks in this Laurel shade.
Believe it or not, this isn’t actually a fitted sheet. It sits beneath one instead, adding a cooling layer between you and your mattress before the rest of your bedding even enters the equation. A smart addition for summer, certainly, but it's also one of my go-to year-round upgrades for its protection against odors, allergens, spills, and everyday wear.
Be it slung over an armchair or wrapped around your legs after a long day at the beach, Cozy Earth’s new Cotton Gauze Blanket has the easygoing charm of the very best summer companions: ready for anything, even a triple-digit forecast.
