Kips Bay is Back in Greenwich Village – and for the First Time, an Art Curator Is Joining the Transformation
Peter Dunham, Nicole Fisher, and Corey Damen Jenkins are among 22 designers taking over four floors – with a first-ever art curator in tow
Last year, Kips Bay Decorator Show House made its move downtown to Greenwich Village – and for its 51st year, it stays. Once a bohemian hub for artists and creatives, the neighborhood is now one of the city’s swankiest zip codes, setting a befitting stage for another round of aesthetic reinvention inside the 1900s brick townhouse at 80 West Washington Place.
Kicking off September 16, the month-long design extravaganza hands its four floors over to 22 best-in-class designers. Show House veterans including Peter Dunham, Chad Dorsey, and Corey Damen Jenkins join names that are hardly fledgling, but new to this particular exercise – like Lady Gaga-stylist-turned-luxury-interior-designer Nicole Fisher.
And if you’re into art, this year has an added draw. For the first time, Kips Bay has tapped a curator of its own: Gay Gassmann, who will source and place American works from prominent galleries throughout the home. Rather than simply accessorizing the interiors, the category will be embedded in their DNA – extending the House’s interest in art, fine furnishings, and technology, entirely apropos for a city at the epicenter of all three.
Don’t get too attached to the mid-century-meets-New York industrial flair you see here. Every inch of this landmark townhouse is being reimagined into an immersive showcase of where interiors are headed next.
For all the extraordinary interior details it’s known for, Kips Bay Decorator Show House has always had a philanthropic point. Every ticket, starting at $50, supports the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club and its educational and enrichment programs for young people across New York City. To date, the Show House has raised more than $33 million for the organization.

An essential pit stop for art fans, interior obsessives, and anyone who still romanticizes the cheap rents and unbridled creativity that once flooded these cobblestone streets, exactly how this historic Greenwich Village real estate will be transformed remains to be seen. From September 16 through October 13, prepare to be totally unprepared.
