'An example of this could be vintage or antique bread boards, which can be very functional for serving bread, fruit, and cheese. They also come in several different shapes and sizes, and they can add visual interest,' adds Debbie.

'I personally have a set of vintage Washington & Forge wood-handled silverware in the Town and Country pattern. The polished wood handles with brass details are very unique and always spark interest at dinner parties.'

'When layering your summer dining table, a vintage tablecloth can immediately nod to days gone by – of summer lunches that linger into dinners,' says designer Maggie Griffin. 'Additionally, vintage napkins and glassware are a fun way to sprinkle in older items with new ones. Think of layering a table as one does a room. Mixing patterns and color can only make the time spent around the table that much sweeter!'

'Vintage items that I like to include in my summer tablescapes are antique and vintage glassware and dishes,' says Debbie. 'I personally own a set of Fostoria glassware in the iconic American pattern. You can purchase almost any tabletop item in this pattern, from any type of drinking glass to cake plates and dessert plates.'

'With the wide variety of pieces available, you can create a truly breathtaking tablescape using this pattern,' continues Debbie. 'And of course, the sky is the limit for using vintage and antique dishes in your tablescape. Antique blue transferware like Asiatic Pheasant or Blue Willow are popular patterns with a huge number of pieces available. Again, drenching the table with one of these historic patterns can create a true wow moment for your guests.'

Kelly Gaudreau, interior stylist and founder of home decor company HOSTED agrees, 'I like to do a smattering of mix and match glassware – some old and some new – but all complementing the overall look of the table in terms of color and style. It's a fun way to mix it up, and it creates a fun moment for guests to compare their glass with other guests.'
