Antique sale FAQs and tips
There's something so refreshing about the beginning of a new year, and if you're planning to renew your interiors, your local antique and vintage fairs are the perfect opportunity to find unique, characterful pieces. There are, however, a few things to consider before the event, especially if you are new to this style of shopping.
It always pays to be prepared. Measure the space in your home and then measure the antique furniture you like the look of. There's nothing as disappointing as finding what you think is the perfect piece, only for it not to fit. This Amazon Basics Self-Locking Tape Measure is perfect for the job.
Make sure you bring cash with you! It always catches people out, as you will find some fairs only accept cash at the door, and some vendors will only accept cash, too. It's also a great way of budgeting.
Think about how you will get your purchases home. A comfortable, strong tote bag is great for smaller decor buys, but if you are visiting a larger fair or buying heavy antiques, this Heavy Duty Folding Fabric Wagon will be your favorite purchase of the year.
You'll need to be more organized if you plan to buy large furniture. Ensure your vehicle is large enough to get it home, and check ahead of time if the market you are visiting is happy for you to bring a van closer to the stall for easy transportation. If neither of these things is possible, check with the seller if they can help, as they usually offer a delivery service.
January is a great time to get yourself to your local antiques fairs. They are usually a little bit quieter, with people still unwinding for the holiday celebrations, so you're more likely to find some true gems with the chance of better prices.
