I always turn to throw pillows to quickly update my rooms when the season changes – this is my edit of the best fall designs from all the collections of 2025
From leather to tartan, velvet to florals, these are the fall throw pillows I want in my apartment for cozy season 2025

Whenever you’re experiencing the interior design equivalent of maybe I should get bangs, it’s time to swap out your throw pillows. It’s not that the ones you’ve got are bad, exactly – you’re just bored, the season’s shifting, and something’s got to give.
As an editor living in a city where square footage is the ultimate luxury, fall throw pillows are my go-to trick when my rooms don't feel… autumnal enough. And this year, 'autumn’ has got a new hairdo, so to speak.
I’ve covered quite a few launches this season – Sarah Sherman Samuel for Lulu and Georgia, Crate & Barrel, Anthropologie, the list goes on. And one throughline I’ve noticed is a move away from traditional, away from cliché. Where autumn once leaned into moody jewel tones, fall 2025 trends are brightening up. The seasonality now comes through ornamentation (piping, trims that feel more formal), and texture. Think wool, fur, and an avalanche of velvet.
Ahead, 12 pillow covers that prove a seasonal reset doesn’t need to weigh down your palette (or your cushion closet).
Scalloped edges go sultry in Joon Loloi’s striped Rita Pillow Cover, cut from a natural brown that feels like the '70s button-down your coolest friend’s older brother once wore. It’s a playful, louche nod to retro style, best when layered against nostalgic materials like mohair.
Bored corners, beware. This velvet striped pillow is unapologetically graphic – at 22” x 22” it’s generously scaled and indulgently soft. And because it’s Etsy, you can play with the proportions. A custom oversized ‘unipillow’ for the bedroom? Entirely on the table.
If you were looking for a shake-up piece, Christina Lundsteen’s cushions are it. The Danish designer scales down her signature patterns without losing their impact – they command the room several times over. A little mid-century, a little playful, the red-and-blue pairing (classic fall meets not-at-all fall) nails this season’s airier approach.
Outrageous in the best way, this pillow cover brings spunk to any room with 100% Mongolian fur – a rarity at this price point – in a striking eggplant shade. It even comes with its own insert, because we both know that after this list, you’ll be in the market for extras anyway.
Quince is the best-kept not-so-secret in savvy shopping circles, cutting out the middleman to deliver luxe quality without the markup. Take, for instance, this under-$30 cotton velvet pillow, which is identical in fabrication to those triple the price. With its sharp knife-edge finish, it’s begging to be multiplied across your accent chairs.
Who said flowers were only for spring? This Impressionist-inspired cover is painterly and perfectly moody for fall. Pair it with mohair, bouclé, or other fall-coded textures now, then swap in linens and cottons come summer for an entirely new effect. It’s also on clearance, so consider this your cue to act fast.
Not to play favorites, but this might be the cover of the season – and it’s under $50. Equestrian details are peaking in cool factor, but paired with tapestry construction? Dare I say, perfect. Anchor this vintage revival with black throws or leather accents to turn up the mood.
Bored of burgundy? Try terracotta. In Merino wool piped with black, it’s a prime example of how fall 2025 is steering away from heaviness. The herringbone weave adds subtle dimension, which is sophisticated enough to register even from across the room.
Sometimes the perfect cushion-to-couch pairing comes from instinct – a feeling, an inclination. Other times, it’s not so simple.
