I Hate Seeing Ugly Plastic Storage Bins Under My Sofas Every Day, so I’m Switching to These Beautiful Hyacinth Ones Instead

They’re gorgeous, on sale, and will continue giving us vital storage in our small home

I live in a compact home, and the space underneath our sofas has been vital in expanding easy-access storage, especially for my daughter’s craft products and toys.

But I’ll be honest: I hate seeing the ugly plastic bins peeking out under my lovely black velvet sofas, no matter how useful they are. That’s why I am finally switching them all out for stylish handwoven hyacinth lidded bins from Wayfair, which are far nicer to look at and promise function without compromising on style.

I Can’t Wait to Get My Hands on These Beautiful Hyacinth Storage Bins

Many professional organizers recommend organizing your home with plastic bins, allowing you to see what’s inside and easily locate what you’re looking for. Whilst this does indeed work brilliantly for out-of-sight areas such as storage in attics, basements and garages, it can add a sense of visual clutter in your living room.

That’s certainly what has been happening in mine, as our sofas have around five inches of clearance underneath, making them prime for adding discreet storage. For the last four years, we’ve used plastic latch-lidded bins from Amazon. They’ve been brilliant for our daughter to be able to access what she wants, such as her Lego storage, without us having to do it for her.

However, we recently changed our living room layout, which means that when I am sitting in my favorite spot, looking out to the street, there are now plastic bins in my eyeline underneath the sofa opposite.

I’m a person who needs my environment to be organized, and I find visual clutter stressful. I can’t relax until the room I’m in is tidy, and as a person in chronic pain and with limited mobility, it’s not always an option for me.

That’s why these hyacinth bins from Wayfair really caught my attention. They are shallow, lidded, and the perfect size to tuck under my sofas without being ugly to look at. In fact, they’re exactly the sort of item to encourage biophilic decluttering and can be used in bedrooms too.

Content editor at Homes & Gardens and expert in organizing tips, Chiana Dickson, says, ‘If there is one thing I hate in my bedroom, it is seeing the big white canvas storage bags stashed beneath the bed. They are a necessity for organizing a small home with no storage, but they really bring down the appeal of the room.

‘These woven baskets, on the other hand, would make the squeezed-in storage in bedrooms, living rooms, and guest or communal areas look far more intentional, proving that practical doesn't have to equal boring or ugly.

'This is not to mention the fact that these Wayfair hyacinth bins are sturdy with a hidden metal frame. The lids mean items are strictly contained, with no room for the sides to bow out when stuffed full, keeping the area beneath a sofa or bed neat as well as organized. They are the perfect example of functional storage that is also stylish.'
