Alicia Silverstone's quiet luxury living room color scheme taps into this calming trend that will be everywhere in 2024
A classic shade looks even chicer in the 'Clueless' actress's living room – and this look is only set to become more popular
She might be a '90s icon, but Alicia Silverstone's home is a 2020s masterpiece. The actress captures the essence of this year's most popular interior design trends through a combination of warm neutrals and mid-century modern furniture.
In Silverstone's living room, chocolate brown makes a bold statement. The space is an ode to the warm, cozy shade: from the deep mahogany hardwood floors to the velvet sofa. Textural pieces like a glass coffee table and thick-weave jute rug add visual interest while cream walls and beige curtains ground and lighten the look.
This look is one of 2024's biggest living room trends. Victoria Foster, an interior stylist at ScS states: 'As is often the case, interior styles follow fashion trends. So where we saw shades of chocolate brown on SS24 runways at the end of 2023, we’re now seeing this trickle into our homes, too.'

Foster continues, 'The retro interior design trends of the 1970s are also inspiring lots of homes this year, with glamorous dark mahogany shades, structured velvet sofas, and brass accents making their way back into our homes. Different shades of brown are a perfect complement to the rich wood tones that are prominent once again.' We see all of these motifs appearing in Silverstone's space.
'Earthy colors and fabrics are also trending, of which brown is an anchor color,' adds Foster. She goes on, 'Lots of brown shades can be considered ‘earthy’ - from light beiges to clay and mocha. All of which pair well with other earthy colours such as dark green, burnt orange and deep blue. This trend works best when you accessorise with natural textures - think wool, leather and wood.' In the Clueless actress's space, this variety comes through in the lineny curtains and the jute carpet.
Silverstone's trendy living room sofa color has an especially profound impact on her space. 'For a modern twist on a classic monochrome scheme, I recommend opting for chocolate-colored furniture – starting with a sofa,' adds design expert (and our digital editor) Jennifer Ebert. 'We're seeing an increasing number of celebrities and designers alike opting for furniture in this hue, so I'd say it's a safe investment.'
