Danielle Fishel of 'Boy Meets World' on What Topanga's Home Would Look Like Today (and The $5 Essential She Can't Live Without)

In 2026, '90s nostalgia is in full swing. We're seeing a resurgence of the interior design trends that defined this decade, including chrome finishes, glass bricks, and pattern layering. Of course, any discussion of '90s aesthetics would be remiss to leave out the television shows that characterized this period's rich visual universe, from Friends to Frasier to Twin Peaks; cozy cocooning spaces were all the rage.

To dive more deeply into these looks, Homes & Gardens spoke with bona fide '90s icon Danielle Fishel, who played Topanga on the hit TV show Boy Meets World, in an exclusive interview.

The show premiered in 1993 and ran until the year 2000, placing it in the thick of our favorite '90s trends. Danielle joined the Celebrity Style team to share how she’s refreshing her home and routines this spring cleaning season with the help of Lysol Lavender & Cotton Blossom.

We discussed her favorite '90s looks, parts of the show's interiors, and how she imagines Topanga's home would look now. Danielle also dove into the cleanliness rituals that make her feel at home. First, I asked Danielle about the trends from the show she could see making a comeback in 2026, and how she will be decorating with them in her own home. Just like everyone else, Danielle is nostalgic for the '90s colors and energy.

She explains: 'I am definitely guilty of having gone through the boring beige, modern farmhouse aesthetic, and I’m loving the more maximalist vibe I’ve been seeing lately. We’re about to start a home remodel, and I’m looking forward to using deep, saturated colors and patterns while increasing comfort.'

When asked about what her character from Boy Meets World, Topanga's, home would look like, Danielle had a clear vision. She told Homes & Gardens: 'Topanga’s home would be eclectic and vibrant, and I imagine there’s a dream catcher in the bedroom. I feel like she would have a low, real wood coffee table with comfortable chairs with big, fluffy pillows, and there would always be good snacks. Well, maybe that’s Danielle projecting because I am obsessed with snacks.'

Her favorite detail from the show's interiors is one that the Celebrity Style team also adores. Danielle explains: 'I love the Matthews’ French doors in the living room and the fireplace mantle. I don’t currently have a mantle in my house, and I miss it!' Us too, Danielle, us too.

Of course, the busier the decor of a home, the more important cleaning becomes. More items mean more things to keep in place and keep dust-free, so cleanliness is an essential dimension to emulating '90s trends.

When asked about her approach to spring cleaning, Danielle explains: 'I am a firm believer that the way my house looks is a representation of my inner self. When my home is messy and chaotic, I feel messy and chaotic inside, so I really start with a good decluttering. Next, I tackle germs with the Lysol Lavender and Cotton Blossom scented products (at Amazon) come in. They kill 99.9% of all germs and leaves behind a refreshing scent that my whole family loves.'

The essentials she can't live without follow the same pattern. Danielle states: 'The Lysol Lavender and Cotton Blossom scented disinfecting wipes (from Amazon) are a staple in my house, and I also keep a container in my car! Having two small boys (five and seven) means there are snacks and sticky fingers everywhere, and no one loves coming into contact with mystery stickiness. I also love putting a few wipes in a bag to take on planes when I travel, which is a lot with spring and summer break coming up.'
