Forget all-white kitchens – the actress proves that a richly saturated hue is the ultimate timeless upgrade from safe, sterile palettes

Every now and then, a kitchen stands out among the hundreds of beautiful spaces we see each month. Most recently, it came in the form of Cameron Diaz's jewel-toned kitchen, designed by the revered Kelly Wearstler in her West Village home.

Green kitchen cabinets always feel beautiful, and even mysterious, in a way that softer neutrals can't quite match. Yet, Cameron's space has an allure that feels utterly unique.

Unlike most kitchen cabinets, these are coated in a custom, deep emerald-green lacquer. The high-gloss finish gives the cabinets a reflective quality that's not expected in such a smaller urban kitchen – but it doesn't feel compact. Because the surface reflects light rather than absorbs it, the deep green never feels heavy or claustrophobic, making it an unexpectedly sensible choice for a kitchen like Cameron's.

To replicate Cameron's style, Farrow & Ball's Emerald Green is arguably the closest match to her shade. It is a deep hue that was formulated specifically to capture the bright, clean, luxurious nature of a gemstone. It'll pop beautifully in the sunlight and be stunning against gold hardware, much like we see in her space.

I also love introducing pockets of green to a neutral kitchen with accessories, much like these that I've curated below.

Hebe Hatton, the Head of Interiors at Homes & Gardens, reinforces the specialty of such cabinets.

'We are so used to seeing sage green kitchens everywhere in 2026, which is a lovely shade not too far from a neutral – a safe green. But if you want to commit to a green that's just as timeless as sage but makes a bolder design statement, this family of vivid emerald-esque greens can be perfect,' Hebe says.

'The cabinets in this kitchen also have a slight wooden texture visible under the glossy green, which gives it more texture and depth, and the glossy finish is also a must with these greens because when used in this amount in a flat matte, they can really pull light out of a space. Gold or brass hardware works best with this green to add warmth.'

While sage green may continue to dominate kitchen trends, Cameron's emerald cabinets offer a compelling alternative. Luxurious and light-reflective, they show that a deeper green can bring just as much longevity as it does drama, making it a shade worth considering for any kitchen.
