Camila Cabello’s dreamy kitchen lighting will make you rethink overhead fixtures – it's almost too elegant to be practical

When considering kitchen ambiance, lighting is one of the best ways to curate a welcoming atmosphere – as well as being incredibly important to its functionality.

We're taking cues from Camila Cabello, who recently shared a snap of her warm, wood kitchen to her Instagram page. She has opted for a wall sconce, located conveniently over her countertop area, and it's giving us some fantastic kitchen lighting ideas.

The fluted shade and metallic arm give the area a luxe, minimalist feel, serving in perfect contrast to her natural, stone walls. It's also highly practical, as this area is a space to prepare food, and the light provides ample visibility.

While sconces are often introduced in hallways, bedrooms, or bathrooms, placing them strategically in a kitchen is a great way to create volume while highlighting a certain area of your space.

'Wall sconces are perfect for adding soft, directional lighting that can highlight artwork, frame a mirror, or provide task lighting in functional spaces like a bathroom or hallway,' explains designer Nina Lichtenstein.

'Unlike overhead lights that can sometimes feel harsh, sconces offer a more subtle, focused light. Adjustable swing-arm sconces are ideal for bedside or desk use, while flush-mounted or hardwired sconces create a streamlined look along walls or staircases.'

Alternatively, Nina says that a tried-and-true pendant light is a great choice for above an island.

'While traditionally used as overhead lighting, pendant lights can serve as a stylish alternative to task lighting when placed in the right location,' she explains. 'Hang pendants low over kitchen islands, dining tables, or even bedside tables for a focused pool of light that adds visual interest and functionality without the harshness of ceiling lights.'

If pendants and sconces aren't your thing, consider the trusted lamp, which we are increasingly seeing in unexpected rooms like the kitchen.

'Floor and table lamps are versatile and essential when you want to create pools of light around a room,' Nina says. 'Look for lamps with dimmable features, so you can easily adjust the light to fit the mood, whether it’s a soft glow for a relaxing evening or brighter light for reading.'
