Few features transform a backyard as dramatically as a swimming pool. While these aquatic escapes are often viewed as purely functional, they are deeply entwined with home aesthetics: an elegant pool design can elevate an entire garden, whereas a poorly planned installation can diminish the surrounding landscape. Eva Longoria's pool sits firmly in the sophisticated category, offering a masterclass in backyard design for 2026.

The actress recently shared photos on Instagram featuring her child against the backdrop of her sleek, narrow lap pool. As the spring sun begins to warm the patio, the beige stone surrounding the water glows with an enhanced radiance.

'A pool should always complement its surrounding space and architecture,' explains Brad Holley, Outdoor Design Director at Pure Design. Discussing this specific backyard idea, he notes:

'In a space like this one, it's very clear that simplicity and minimalism are the dominating forces, which means that you want the pool to be understated. In this outdoor environment, the pool is not meant to be the main visual feature. In its narrowness, it's more of a beautiful accessory that enhances the overall feel of the space.'

Beyond its clean lines, this elongated small backyard pool cleverly manipulates visual perception. 'From a design perspective, having any elongated feature in a space can change your sense of size and proportion,' Brad says. 'Based on the shadows being cast, it's fair to say that the home is probably parallel to the pool. If I had to guess, I would say that this lap-swimming pool is probably between 50 – 60 feet long.'

He adds that such a layout creates a feeling of expansive width when stepping outside. Even though the central stucco feature wall is substantial – likely at least 72" x 144" – the towering privacy hedges make the entire setting feel grand and secluded, a perfect retreat for the warmer months of 2026.

The benefits of the actress's setup extend well beyond visual appeal. Certified Physical Therapist and exercise expert Rachel MacPherson highlights that a long lap pool functions as a private home gym. 'Having a long lap pool in your backyard, like the one Eva Longoria has, offers multiple health benefits,' she states. 'First off, swimming is an excellent form of cardio that's suitable for just about everyone. The buoyancy of water means your body bears much less weight while swimming, making it a fun and therapeutic form of exercise.'

Furthermore, having a swimming pool in your backyard provides the flexibility to exercise during a quiet summer evening or just before bed. As Rachel points out, 'Exercise and sleep have a bi-directional positive relationship – meaning exercise can help you sleep better, and good sleep can enhance your exercise performance and consistency.'
