Neutral Sofas Are Nice, but Goldie Hawn's Powder Blue Velvet Choice Is 10 Times Chicer – It's Surprisingly Versatile and Right on Trend

I love cream, white, and beige sofas as much as the next person, but Goldie's tranquil alternative has convinced me to break convention for 2026

Neutral sofas, whether they're white, cream, beige, or gray, will always be classic. They're highly versatile and always chic, regardless of their silhouette. I'll admit, I thought these traditonal colorways were unrivaled, until Goldie Hawn's powder blue velvet sofa – and it's changed how I'll decorate my living room for the better.

The Overboard actress created the perfect base for her blue sofa, from the cream-painted wall and textured rug to the white coastal-style furniture that allows her sofa to take center stage.

Decorating with blue, especially pale, powder shades like Goldie's, has not been fashionable. However, as we look towards 2026 color trends, Pinterest predicts it's only set to get even more stylish. Specifically, they labeled 'Cool Blue' as one of the most influential hues of the year, but this includes variations on the tone, just like the one seen in Goldie's living room.

'Powder blues and icy shades pair beautifully with soft neutrals and dark woods, making it incredibly easy to adopt without redecorating your entire home,' comments Chloe Barrow, an interior expert at Laura James. She, too, recommends tapping into the palette with layered textures, including cushions, like this one from Wayfair.

'Consider layering different blues through cushions and throws to create a soft tonal effect, or pair blue hues with natural textures to balance the overall crispness,' she says. There's never a bad time to follow Goldie's example, but as 2026 approaches, experimenting with this color has never felt more apt.
