Spice jar storage was at the bottom of my priority list until I saw Hailee Steinfeld's ultra-functional backsplash – I've never seen anything similar
Her clever kitchen trick makes regular spice racks look outdated – you’ll wonder why it’s not standard in every home

I'll admit, spice jar storage never excited me, and consequently, never felt like a priority in my kitchen. I used to throw a few jars on a lazy Susan in my cupboard and hope for the best. Then I spotted Hailee Steinfeld's spice jar backsplash, and it changed how I see storage for good.
The Sinners actress has the most impressive spice jar set-up I've ever seen. It's split into two symmetrical rows that feel so regimented – doubling as a unique kitchen backsplash that reinvents conventions.
Over recent years, I've written about hundreds of celebrity backsplashes, many of which are stylish and inventive (the luxurious 'slab backsplash' trend comes to mind). However, Hailee's is arguably the most functional I've seen to date.
She makes use of every inch of backsplash space, ensuring it's covered in spice jars that are easy to reach, while looking streamlined in the process. If you're thinking about organizing spices in a bold new way, let this backsplash be your blueprint.

Shop spice jar storage essentials
This 3-tier wooden step shelf provides ample storage space for spice bottles, jars, seasonings, and baking supplies in your kitchen pantry, cabinet, or along your backsplash, just like Hailee's. To get her look, I'd invest in 3 or 4 of these shelves and line them alongside one another against the backsplash in your kitchen.
Designed with countertop use in mind, this rack is the storage essential you never knew you needed. It's great for spices, alongside other essentials, including small teapots, loose tea leaves, dry goods, and snacks. It'll look great alongside a backsplash, just as Hailee teaches us.
This smart tiered spice rack helps you quickly find spices and seasonings while cooking. In addition to using it on the countertop (or along a backsplash), it can be placed in a cabinet or pantry to organize spice jars, cans, and other items.
Hailee's spice jar backsplash reminded me that kitchen storage doesn't need to be conventional. With that in mind, I spoke to Steve Larkin, the CEO of Kitchen Door Hub, who shared more smart ways to upgrade your spice storage in a way that translates to every kind of kitchen, whatever the size. First, he suggests floating shelves, which are especially perfect for following Hailee's example.
'Instead of using a traditional spice rack, you can store spices on floating shelves if you need a space-saving solution in your kitchen. Then, to improve the overall aesthetics of this, decant the spices into matching glass jars,' Steve says.
Similarly, if you're working with a high number of jars (as in Hailee's case), he suggests creating a 'spice village'. In this case, you invest in several streamlined glasses and group them in a way that feels curated and cohesive.

'If you want to make your spice storage into a quirky, decorative feature, consider investing in a spice village set. These decorative jars are great for storing spices so that their flavour remains intact, and the decorative jars can form a small village when kept together,' he explains.
