While one might not instantly link a Los Angeles 'farmhouse' to a zen garden, Jennifer Garner is redefining our expectations for 2026.

Her minimalist pool area, an architectural collaboration with Steve Giannetti, serves as a masterclass in restraint. By eschewing traditional planting, bulky furniture, and excess accessories, the space avoids being dull; instead, it feels grounded and restorative. The home's raw timber and decking take the spotlight, proving that simplicity is often the height of luxury.

Beyond the greenery, lighting plays a vital role in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere. We are particularly fond of this intricate solar lantern (from Amazon), which adds a soft, intentional glow to a poolside or patio as the evenings grow warmer.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, experts suggest this rise in popularity stems from the therapeutic nature of such environments. 'The key is in the simplicity,' explains Marcus Eyles, the horticultural director at Dobbies.

Compared to cottage and country garden-style gardens, this style of outdoor space is uncomplicated and pared back. It doesn’t feature a lot of different flowers, creating a sense of peace and tranquility.' He notes that the goal is to establish a modern feel where 'light and clean lines are important when it comes to establishing a sense of zen.'

In Garner’s sanctuary, the unpainted wooden deck provides a sense of quiet luxury that remains beautiful regardless of the season. Because there is no furniture to maintain against the elements, the area looks pristine year–round. For those with smaller plots, this look is achievable through a tightly curated selection of plants. 'When planning the space, look to create a neat, organized structure with simple planting schemes and choose neutral, natural colors, such as lush leafy greenery, white flowers, and silver, grey foliage,' Eyles suggests. He also recommends using 'tall sculptural plants' to add height and interest.

To truly master this trend for the 2026 outdoor season, Eyles suggests incorporating ornamental grasses, particularly larger foliage varieties like Miscanthus and Pampas grasses (Cortaderia). 'Architectural foliage, such as Bamboo (Arundinaria), can be used around to frame the outside edges of gardens or to add some extra privacy and create zones or areas within a space,' he adds.

Whether you are looking to fully replicate Jennifer Garner’s 'quiet luxury' or simply want to introduce a touch of grounding energy to your backyard, these intentional choices ensure your sanctuary remains timeless. In the landscape of 2026, the most enduring gardens are those that prioritize peace and architectural purity over the passing trends of the season.
