For some of us, the gothic aesthetic is not just for Halloween decor; it's a way of life. Dark, moody wallpapers and accessories can set a distinct tone in the home, and in our opinion, there is no better place to start with this style than the entryway.

Jessica Simpson has given us a blueprint for a whimsigoth-inspired look, having posted a snap of her lush, ornate entryway to her Instagram page.

According to design experts, decorating in a gothic style is not about accessories that feel to seasonal or decorative; rather, it is about creating a dark yet warm mood.

'Whimsigoth is all about steering away from traditional dark, Halloween-esque inspired decor and more about gravitating towards mixing warm tones with a dark color palette to create a cozy atmosphere,' Claudia Kampmann, Europe brand manager at Ruggable explains.

Claudia says that one of the best ways to get the look is to experiment with different fabrics and materials for a rich, layered look.

'Mixing textures is also important to nail the trend, especially luxurious ones like velvet, lace and silk,' she says. 'Velvet pillowcases and throws mixed with draped curtains and fairy lights can create a cozy haven to lose yourself in a book or drift off to sleep, while the introduction of a traditional style rug can tie the colour palette together and make the room come alive.'

When it comes to colors, we love the grayish-black that Jessica has gone for with her wallpaper, but Claudia mentions that purple reigns supreme.

'One of the most popular colors of the Whimsigoth trend is purple,' she explains. 'Purple is an excellent choice for paint or wallpaper, as it can be complemented with other tones to create a whimsical escape brimming with nostalgia. Complement the purple with fresh shades of green, warm browns, deep blues and rust oranges in the form of throws, blankets, cushions, and other accessories for a witchy, yet warm feel.'

To recreate the elevated look of Jessica's entryway, try a dark floral wallpaper, like this navy one from McGee & Co., and of course, a crystal chandelier, like this gorgeous one from Target. will create a first impression that will resonate with your guests long after they leave your home (and you can rest easy knowing Jessica Simpson would surely approve of your look).
