Jimmy Fallon’s Natural Wood Kitchen Island Is Leading a Major Design Shift – Why Designers Say It Feels ‘Forever New’
How Jimmy Fallon’s wooden island choice transforms his kitchen with layered design, modern appeal, and lasting character

It's fall, and as a style editor, I’m always spotting recurring design trends in the homes we feature – the wooden kitchen is certainly one of the most persistent. This past year, countless celebrities have embraced wood in their kitchens, often through cabinet finishes. However, Jimmy Fallon takes a different approach, letting his kitchen island remain in its natural state.
Jimmy Fallon's wooden kitchen island isn't entirely rustic. He’s chosen a deep, dusty red-brown hue for his surrounding cabinets, contrasting with classic, bright white walls. The key, however, is his wooden kitchen island, which he leaves unpainted.
By keeping the island natural, Jimmy creates a beautiful contrast against the room’s otherwise colorful, modern elements. This move is as impactful as a fully wooden kitchen. Even without wooden kitchen cabinets, the space feels instantly grounding and rustic, and the isolated use of unpainted wood makes the island the clear focal point.

The best kitchen accessories are as beautiful as they are functional. In this case, richly grained acacia wood turns out into a smooth, sculptural serving essential. It's naturally suited to everyday use, entertaining or artful display.
Made from premium Fraxinus wood, the ergonomic handle is natural, comfortable, lightweight, and does not slide easily, making it feel great to hold in the hand. This set looks perfect on a wooden island or alongside unpainted cabinets.
A tray is such a versatile piece all year round, but it comes into its own in the fall months when cozy, natural materials reign supreme. This would be a lovely way to build a centerpiece on an outdoor table or ottoman, too.
Whether you follow Jimmy’s lead and use wood exclusively for your island or go all-in, designers assure us this look has staying power that will outlast its 'kitchen trend' label.
'Bringing nature indoors, kitchens with wood and organic elements appeal through textures and grains. Warmth and character radiate from these spaces," comments New York-based designer and founder of Arsight Studio, Artem Kropovinsky.
He adds that the long life and simple care of this kitchen choice 'will make it feel forever new and keep it inviting.'
If you’re mixing varying tones and textures like Jimmy, Artem suggests pairing wood with other natural materials like stone or metal. It’s also crucial to think about kitchen lighting. Jimmy selected a striking hanging pendant – perfect for both task lighting and zoning, while looking ultra stylish.

'Lighting accentuates the wood's charm. Daylight enhances warmth, while artificial illumination highlights depth and texture,' he notes.
He also recommends paying attention to the seemingly minor details, suggesting you incorporate natural elements like plants (such as this wicker piece from Wayfair) and wooden-finished utensils, much like this knife set from Amazon.
Artem isn't alone in noticing this growing trend. Paul Kropp, the co-founder at Bakes & Kropp, emphasizes the current high demand.
"We’re seeing a big shift toward natural wood finishes," he says. 'Rich walnuts and oaks add a nice layer of warmth that more homeowners are looking for.'
For a modern aesthetic, Paul suggests contrasting natural wood against more refined materials, striking a balance that feels contemporary and timeless. The deep, rich tones of walnut and oak are particularly appealing as we head into the cozy winter months.
