Why Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos’ Serene White-and-Gray Kitchen Is the Perfect Rebuttal to the ‘Trends Are Everything’ Mindset

The couple’s kitchen proves that white and gray aren’t just classic – they’re endlessly current when styled with intention

There's a persistent narrative in interiors that just because one thing is 'in,' it means that something else is 'out' – I don't subscribe to this belief. The leading example is that as earthy-toned kitchens have grown in popularity, white and gray kitchens have gone out of fashion. As Kelly Ripa and MarConsuelos' home demonstrates, this couldn't be further from the truth.

The couple's kitchen color idea embraces the classic combination of white and gray. Recent photos by Douglas Friedman reveal their white cabinets, white extractor hood, and white and gray marble countertops.

We've curated a collection of white textured kitchen accessories that effortlessly elevate any light-filled, airy kitchen. I particularly love the quietly luxurious marble tray from Wayfair that's great for hosting. There's nothing chicer than functional decor.

After Pantone introduced 'Mocha Mousse' as their Color of the Year last year, and continued conversation about quiet luxury kitchens, brown, tan, and beige are saturating the market. From the popularity of these shades, it would be easy to assume that people are no longer decorating their homes in cooler tones, but white kitchens will always be popular.

This shift towards warmer tones is a common trend we often see heading into the winter seasons as people seek cozy, grounding palettes.

As we see in Ripa and Consuelos' space, a white kitchen color scheme has myriad benefits that make it timeless. First, the brightness of the white cabinets and white countertops helps to make the space feel larger and more full of light.

Even with minimal natural light or oddly placed lighting, this would make an excellent choice. Furthermore, the white color scheme helps to make the space feel extremely clean and uncluttered.

For those who prefer a sparse cooking space, white is the best possible color choice. The addition of black in the flooring and notes of gray in the countertops helps to add depth and keep a traditional white kitchen from looking boring. Just like white, the natural material of marble will always be in style, no matter the year or how trends evolve. I absolutely love the combination with the glass here, which is an easy way to spice up white in your own space.

This kitchen is a demonstration that though interior design trends can act as wonderful inspiration, they're not the end-all and be-all when it comes to what looks good. Often, a classic is just as good, if not better.
