Lin-Manuel Miranda knows this chic couch material looks much more expensive than other weaves, and designers agree
'This sofa defies trends in favor of something quieter and more enduring': The actor's choice taps into a coastal aesthetic that's our blueprint for summer 2025

As a celebrity style editor, I come across various sofa materials in my everyday life, but one textile always leaves an impression: Linen.
Though understated, linen sofas feel quietly chic, while tapping into a Hampton's coastal-inspired aesthetic that's at the top of my Pinterest board for summer. It holds a subtle beauty that's not lost on interior designers, or Lin-Manuel Miranda, it would seem.
The latter may currently be setting headlines for reuniting with the original Hamilton cast at the Tony Awards last night. However, as much as I love this musical, his linen sofa deserves to be center stage.
Linen's versatility ensures this material tops sofa trends year after year, but alongside its functionality, I love how this weave feels subtly expensive. Designers often rely on it as a base for an 'Old Money' coastal decor scheme, reminiscent of a New England beach house, and Lin-Manuel Miranda's living room is yet another example of its power.

Crafted with a robust, solid, and engineered wood frame, this versatile loveseat offers long-lasting durability and support that feels quietly expensive. It's made from premium cotton fabric for a tactile feel and features two square throw pillows that add extra texture and charm in every living room.
What first seems to be a plain white pillow gains depth and dimension from contrast piping. The black edges create a shadow effect that almost makes the pillow appear two-dimensional, like a drawing brought to life. It's simple yet chic, always.
Fringe detailing
Introduce an element of linen to any sofa with this beautiful throw blanket, designed by none other than Magnolia. It features a colorblock pattern in tan and green hues along with fringe detailing for a beautiful look that easily integrates with your decor style.
My admiration for linen is not exclusive. I spoke with designer Nina Lichtenstein, who says that Lin-Manuel's sofa 'quietly commands attention,' and is worth the extra care that comes with its maintenance.
'Cushy, comfortable, and piled with oversized, cloud-soft pillows, it invites you to sink in and stay awhile. Linen might seem like a surprising choice, as it’s not as stain-proof as performance fabrics and it wrinkles on a whim, but that’s exactly what makes it so special. It has a lived-in charm that only gets better with time,'' Nina says.
She continues: 'The beauty of a linen sofa like this one is its versatility. It fits perfectly into just about any design style, whether modern, traditional, coastal, or even eclectic, serving as a subtle foundation for the room around it. In white, it feels fresh and open, grounding the space without overwhelming it. There’s an honesty to linen in that it’s a texture that feels real, like it belongs to someone with stories to tell and people they love to gather with. And unlike flashier furniture moments that come and go, this sofa defies trends in favor of something quieter and more enduring.'

The result? Nina explains that Lin-Manuel's sofa feels like more than just a piece of furniture. 'It’s a soft landing spot in a life filled with movement, creativity, and meaning, and that makes it all the more compelling.' If there's ever a time to follow his lead, it's now.
