The power of an accent chair cannot be understated, and a big determining factor in its ambiance is its color. After seeing Reese Witherspoon's vanity in her dressing room, we are considering an unexpected option: orange.

Reese's otherwise neutral space is cut by her velvet, orange accent seat, making the case for decorating with orange.

While this color is certainly bold, it is actually quite versatile and has some wonderful benefits, too – experts agree that it's a fantastic color choice in the home.

According to experts, orange is a fantastic color choice not only in rooms like a dressing room or living space, but kitchens and dining rooms, thanks to a special property.

'Orange is expressive, vivid and can elicit a sense of enthusiasm in people,' says Jason Lowe, design business manager at Blackberry Farm Design. 'It also is said to help stimulate the appetite – which is why it is perfect as the upholstery color in Three Sisters Restaurant at Blackberry Mountain.'

When it comes to colors that go with orange, designers say that it's best to stick with neutral shades and natural materials.

'Biogenic materials like wood/bamboo, and bronze colors blend well with orange,' explains Hafsa Burt, a renowned architect, designer, and sustainability expert. 'Shades of white offer a fantastic contrast making the orange color pop.'

Orange also comes in a wide variety of shades, from terracotta to tangerine, so selecting a more muted or refined shade is a great way to introduce it into your space seamlessly.

'If you feel as though bright orange is too bold, choosing pastel shades of the color can tone it down slightly and nod to the soft aesthetic of spring,' explains Rhiannon Masters, interior designer and head of brand at Piglet in Bed.
