RuPaul's Hollywood Regency-inspired powder room shows why we should all be decorating based on personal style
The Queen of Drag's bathroom, designed by Martyn Lawrence Bullard, perfectly captures his personality
Martyn Lawrence Bullard is known for creating unique spaces that reflect the personalities of his clients. His design in RuPaul Charles's home perfectly embodies this reputation. The self-proclaimed 'Queen of Drag' has a bold, unapologetic, campy, and colorful personality, and his home reflects it. One of the best representations of this is Ru's green powder room, which could have only been created for the Drag Race host.
Martyn Lawrence Bullard's bathroom idea for RuPaul involves green silk wallpaper handpainted with silhouettes of his profile wearing some of the most iconic wigs from Drag Race. In an Instagram post about the room, Martyn says: 'All taken from actual looks of his, the art is painted on Apple green silk, and gold leaf has been applied around the silhouettes. The silhouette was a popular decorative motif in the 18th and early 19th centuries, often given to prospective partners as a token of love. As such the look fits in perfectly with the whole Hollywood Regency vibe of the home.'

Interior designers are obsessed with Ru's bathroom walls. 'I love how the green wallpaper is the perfect backdrop to RuPaul's hand-painted gold and black silhouettes and the contrast of the white frames,' says Keira Shultz, Arizona-based interior designer and founder of KS Designs.
Keira Schultz is an Arizona based interior designer. She has a degree in Textiles from Arizona State University and a degree in Interior Design from Northern Arizona University Magna Cum Laude. She is an Allied member of ASID and an Associate member of IIDA
She continues about the green bathroom, 'The fluting on the pedestal sink and the scalloped edges of the bowl in combination with the ornate wall sconce adds so much visual interest to the space while letting the silhouettes be the focal point. There are so many beautiful details in a small space without feeling overwhelming.'
The unique details of the powder room make it clear that it is RuPaul's home. This personalized, Hollywood-style home creates a space the owner can feel proud of and inspired by each day. Regardless of your style, these feelings are worth recreating in any space. Whether through handpainted wallpaper, antique furniture, or custom fabric, small, personal touches can make a huge impact.
