Oftentimes, the most inspiring spaces come through in the combination of different design styles. Sharon Osbourne's ecclectic living room is the perfect example.

The TV personality's home, revealed in a recent Instagram video, takes inspiration from traditional to modern to coastal styles in one of the most masterful ways I've ever seen. In the video, Osbourne sits in a rounded wicker chair in front of a glossy sandstone coffee table. Behind her a fireplace with intricate carved details and herringbone bricks grounds the space. The base is a traditional living room, with these more modern elements interspersed.

Design experts are huge fans of the look. 'I love the mixing and matching of traditional and coastal decor in this space,' says Kathy Kuo, acclaimed, NYC-based interior designer. She continues: 'It feels very intentional, with an emphasis on comfort and laidback luxury thanks to the woven chair and the ornate mantelpiece. Finally, the pop of green from the plant infuses this space with a sense of organic charm.'

The varied living room colors are another striking element of Osbourne's space. Jennifer Ebert, color expert and digital editor at Homes & Gardens adds: 'Osbourne's yellow walls are a bold addition to the room. They provide a gorgeous contrast with the green of the palm plant and are an interesting complement to the browns in the rooms. It's a new take on warm neutrals.'

The mix of textures her is also an enchanting part of the style. Ebert states: 'The combination of the woven wicker texture against the smooth, clean lines of the glossy stone table make both elements stand out all the more. The artisanal stone inlay on the fireplace contrasts nicely with the wild fronds of Osbourne's palm plant for an interesting, visually appealing appearance.'

Shop The Coastal Edit

No matter your decor scheme, incorporating subtle New England coastal decor into your space can bring a sense of lightness and modernity. Wicker furnishings are a great start for bringing the style in without any kitsch. An elegant, shell-shaped vessel like this one from Wayfair adds something unexpected.

To recreate Osbourne's timeless look, consider how you might combine conflicting design styles. It could be coastal and traditional as she has done, or contemporary and mid-century, or rustic and modern. The more distinct the styles, the more interesting the combination will be. If it feels daunting, you can start with just a few elements of the new style you are introducing to see how it blends with the existing decor.

The best spaces don't have to stick to just one style; sometimes a little experimentation can lead to something magical.
