Wood is often used in the kitchen for a reason – between its durability and versatility, it's pretty much a no-brainer, regardless of the design scheme you select.
Usher's kitchen is further proof of this sentiment. The singer recently shared a clip of his space on his Instagram page, and we are obsessed with his take on the modern rustic kitchen.
Rather than go for a traditional wood, Usher's cabinets have a sleek, ribbed effect, with gold handles and marble countertops contrasting the natural elements of the area. It's the ultimate blend of rustic and contemporary, perfect for 2025 (and long beyond).

This multi-use board can display charcuterie or is just as functional to chop vegetables on.
This candle doesn't just smell like figs, but like the whole fig tree, in all its green and woodiness. It would look so chic in a wooden kitchen, just as Usher demonstrates.
Kitchen storage is solved with these matte and wood, high-volume jars.
According to experts, unpainted wood cabinets are a fantastic pick for the kitchen in part because they add warmth and an inviting quality to a space.
'Unpainted cabinets bring a timeless and organic appeal to any kitchen,' explains designer Nina Lichtenstein.
'Their natural beauty, durability, and versatility make them an excellent choice for those looking to create a warm, inviting, and sustainable kitchen environment. By thoughtfully styling around them, you can achieve a space that feels both grounded and sophisticated, a true reflection of the heart of your home.'
When it comes to styling around wood cabinets, Nina says that mixing and matching different hues and materials is encouraged.

'The neutral tones of natural wood pair well with a variety of colors and materials,' she explains. 'Whether you prefer the cool elegance of marble countertops or the warm tones of granite, unpainted cabinets provide a versatile backdrop that complements any choice.'
As we can see, Usher's wood cabinets are balanced perfectly by white countertops, which lighten the area, as well as the metallic gold handles, which make it feel more elevated. On the topic of handles, Nina says finish is crucial in dictating the ambiance of a kitchen.
'Choose hardware that enhances the natural aesthetic,' she suggests. 'Brushed brass or matte black handles and knobs can add sophistication without detracting from the wood's beauty. For a more rustic look, consider wrought iron or antique finishes.'
To take things up a notch, consider adding accessories like wood cutting boards or woven baskets to coordinate with your wood kitchen cabinets. Alternatively, keep the contemporary vibe going with a chrome kettle.
