It's undeniable: bold wallpaper is everywhere. Once considered 'dated,' this retro staple is back adorning the walls of the world's chicest homes, and we'll admit, it can be intimidating. How do you decorate with bold wallpapers without making them look overwhelming? Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel's stunning entryway holds the key.
The couple recently debuted their freshly redone New York apartment with interiors that are the perfect marriage of English and American, and new and old design. Their entryway idea is especially striking, drenched in House of Hackney Hollyhocks Wallpaper.
It works because they let the bold wallpaper serve as a striking standalone feature, complementing it with more pared-back eclectic decor. The space features a gilded mirror, pretty green wall sconces, and a dark marble console table. The trim is painted forest green to complement the wallpaper.
Their method is replete with methods for the rest of us. Here's a peek into Jonathan and Zooey's bold entryway, an edit of products for recreating their look at home, and expert commentary on why it works.

Recreate Zooey and Johnathan's Look at Home
If you want to access the look of 18th-century French antiques on any budget, these pretty Wayfair ones are perfect. They come in three different styles, so you can choose the look that's best for your home.
Zooey and Johnathan use a pretty white vase with blue flowers to add a brightness to their entryway console table and this one is the perfect pick for recreating the look.
I love the ease of this light. It comes with a remote control and adjustable light settings. You can pick from warm or cool, dim as you please, and use the timer to personalize when you would like them to turn off.
The silver finish of this tray radiates sophistication and elegance. Use it on your entryway console as the perfect place to store your keys and add a metallic charm to the space.
True antiques bring a warm, storied feel into your home. This console table resembles Zooey and Johnathan's and would be the perfect match with floral wallpaper
Though all-over forest green designs are on their way out, this shade is perfect for a subtle pop, as on the trim in this entryway. Just coordinate it with one other detail in the room, and the results will be magical.
First, the couple lets their wallpaper idea stand alone as the focal point in the room. Rather than drawing the eye in multiple directions, the wallpaper is the accent detail, and the rest of the pieces complement this. From the green trim to the green lamps, it's all designed to tie into this one hero area.
Furthermore, a unique combination of handmade, modern, and vintage pieces is essential to making Jonathan and Zooey's Look work.
Chloe Barrow, Interior Expert at Laura James, explains: 'From hand-painted walls to ceramics and textiles, this modern heritage look is really about curating a home that feels lived in. The spaces that feel most special are those where every piece tells a story - whether that’s an antique mirror or a piece of vintage glassware picked up on your travels. Mixing old and new with confidence creates that effortless, collected-over-time feel.'
