Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott’s Stunning Terrace Makeover Shows Why Matcha Green Paint Is the Energizing Color Choice Designers Love Right Now
Their outdoor area features a refreshing green paint job alongside black and white checkered floors, monochrome furniture, and a stone planter

If you've been paying any attention to Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott's social media feeds, you will likely have been privy to the power couple/design enthusiasts' whimsical and inspiring interiors. Now, the duo has shared their latest project: a renovation of their New York City apartment, and we are completely obsessed with the terrace.
In a post shared to their pages, we can see that green paint works wonders to make the outdoor area feel energizing, welcoming, and fresh as ever. It's the perfect complement against the black-and-white tiled floors, stone urn planter, and monochrome lounge chair; it also gives us plenty of terrace ideas.
If you're working with a small outdoor space (which, if you live in New York or a big city, it might be the case), green is an excellent paint color choice to instantly brighten and expand an area.

Adorned with vibrant green stripes on both sides, this indoor outdoor lumbar pillow cover features a contrasting, deeper green scalloped edge, capturing the essence of coastal living in any backyard.
The handcrafted ceramic pot planter offers a simply delightful touch of modern minimalism with its round shape, multiple solid color glaze options, and durable design that upgrades any terrace.
New for this year, this refined dining chair oozes antique style with a decorative steel frame, ball finials, and performance fabric cushions finished with contrast piping.
Made using an eco-friendly blend of recycled plastic, stone powder and wood dust, this classic urn design will elevate any patio pot displays.
Rather than heavy wooden or cement side tables, look for a lightweight material like this surprisingly stylish lattice table. This way, it can be easily moved around as you host, and I love the soft green hue for added elegance.
Perfect for putting up your feet, extra seating, or to simply add a pop of print to your patio. It's matcha green hue is perfect for tapping into Zooey's look without the paint.
According to design insiders, a green tea shade, like the one Zooey and Jonathan have opted for, is particularly trendy at the moment thanks to, aptly, a coffee shop.
'This trending shade takes its inspiration from the rising popularity of Blank Street, a popular matcha cafe chain that has sparked a craze for the calming yet invigorating tones of matcha green,' explains Michael Rolland, Managing Director at The Paint Shed. 'The shade’s serene qualities make it a versatile choice, perfect for creating tranquil living spaces, refreshing kitchens, or even revitalising outdoor furniture.'
Michael says that one of the best ways to decorate with green is to pair it with warm neutrals for a natural look. However, there are some brighter options for the maximalists among us.
'The best way to style a matcha green shade is to embrace its fun and bright qualities,' he says. 'Pairing with neutral colors such as beige and cream will make the shade pop, but warm tones such as burnt orange complement the tones beautifully.'
He continues, 'The safest option for such a bold color would be using the shade within the kitchen or bedroom cabinets. It’s also important to consider where you get natural light in the home - avoid using it in a room which is on the darker side, as this colour very much thrives in the sunshine.'

We love Little Greene's Garden 86 for a terrace, which gives a zippy spin on a matcha color.
