Antique sale FAQs and tips
Whether you're new to antique markets and vintage sales or a regular attendee, there are a few things to consider before you shop to ensure you arrive prepared and return home with some charming finds.
The most important (and usually forgotten)thing is to bring cash. Some fairs only accept cash for admission, and in some cases, vendors will only accept cash. It's also a great way to make sure you don't overspend – it's easy to do at these events!
If you're buying large furniture items, measure the space in your home before you arrive, and measure the antiques you are considering buying. There's really nothing worse than falling in love with a piece and it not fitting in your home. This Amazon Basics Self-Locking Tape Measure is perfect for the job. You should also check that the item will actually fit through your front door, too.
And finally, how will you transport your finds? Smaller decor pieces can easily be carried, but bring a sturdy, comfortable tote bag for ease. For the larger events, consider a trolley, like this Heavy Duty Folding Fabric Wagon, which makes carrying heavy ceramics or awkward frames much easier.
For larger furniture, it's a good idea to bring a van so you have plenty of space. You can also check with the event team to see if you can bring your van on site for collection, or ask the dealer/seller if they are able to arrange delivery. It's something they are used to doing, so it's always worth asking.
The fairs and markets really start to come alive in February, making it the perfect time to start hunting for unique home decor. always check the fair websites before you visit in case of any unexpected closures, especially during periods of extreme weather.
