I'm dreaming of a burgundy Christmas this year – here's what I am shopping to bring this oh-so-chic shade into my home for the holidays
Move over red and green, there's a new Christmas classic in town
This year I'm really looking to make a statement with my Christmas decor, adopting the most on-trend motifs (it's bows, by the way), hosting ideas, and hues. So I'm taking my cue from 2024's color of the year and dreaming of a burgundy Christmas.
You'll have heard us talking much ado about rich, deep, wine reds this year. Decorating with burgundy has really taken the interior world by storm, from the best burgundy paints to burgundy kitchens and everything in between. So it makes perfect sense that it has made its way into Christmas decorating ideas too.
A step away from traditional 'Santa Suit' red, burgundy offers depth, warmth, and a sense of luxury that feels fresh yet still remains timeless. Whether in velvet ribbons, baubles on the tree, or the palette for this year's tablecaping, this Christmas I'm moving away from merry and bright to something more mellow (or Merlot, if you will).
Fresh off the back of the viral unexpected red theory, burgundy has truly stolen the spotlight his fall. This more moody take on red offers a more refined take on traditional Christmas color, pairing beautifully with jewel tones and metallics making it incredibly versatile for decorating with.
We're talking faux foliage for your Christmas wreath ideas, dark berry ornaments on the Christmas tree, and wine-red tableware for your holiday hosting to create a moody yet perfectly festive theme.
Whether your aesthetic leans rustic or contemporary, burgundy Christmas decor is the most on-trend way to style your home this festive season. Here are just a few of our favorite finds to get you started.
12 burgundy buys for the holidays
Beautifully traditional, this velvet stocking from Joanna Gaines' Magnolia Home features a delicate cutwork pattern with a charming velvet bow.
In Lulu & Georgia's Christmas color 'Sangria' this pair of timeless papier mâché ornaments will add a touch of the trend to your tree.

A tree skirt is a sure way to make your Christmas tree look like it was dressed by a professional. This dainty scalloped skirt by The Six Bells is so whimsical.
Designed with Shea McGee for Target, this holiday faux pine garland is laced with red berries and burgundy leaves for a subtle take on the trend.
Whether you shop this for yourself or gift it to a stylish friend, London-born fashion label Damson Madder has woven their famous leopard print into a beautiful burgundy stocking.
Your bedroom deserves some holiday cheer too! This washed cotton striped bedding set from H&M comes highly reviewed and can even work year-round.
Hosting this year? This ruffled pie dish is good enough to sit pride of place on your Christmas table to help you elevate your home cooking (or store-bought, we won't tell).
Of course, a Christmas tradition is to hang a classic wreath. This faux fern & olive wreath is finished with a dark red velvet bow and dainty berries to bring cheer to your door.
For a sparkling addition to a faux foliage garland, your mantelpiece will certainly love to see this velvet ribbon and glass drop garland coming.
A Christmas mantel or table just isn't complete with candlelight. Loewe's all-wax taper candles will give your decorating the fashionable kudos it deserves.
With matching napkins and a larger square tablecloth available, this scalloped festive table linen print from Juliska at Saks is irresistibly cheerful.
