When it comes to holiday decorating, I am a bit of a traditionalist, and the same decorations come out year after year. Much like in my home, I don't tend to follow holiday trends all too closely. However, when Lulu and Georgia shared the Christmas trends they think we should all have on our radar, one did stand out as being the perfect balance of timeless and trendy for 2025 – crystal and glass accents.

I am cheating a bit, I know, as this is not exactly a new trend, and it’s certainly not one that's going to date in years to come. But this is the kind of 'trend' I like to embrace in my Christmas decorating ideas – the comeback trends that might have faded for a while but will always be a classic. I like to look for the classic trends that are just getting a bit more attention right now and have a 2025 spin.

'Glass and crystal can go anywhere and do anything,' Lulu and Georgia's Art Director, Kelley Mason explains. 'From minimalist round ornaments reflecting the lights on a simple tree to ornate, traditional crystal glasses on a decorated holiday table.'

Unlike certain traditional holiday decor ideas that can feel a bit kitschy, glass and crystal accents have the potential to decorate a home with effortless, timeless style. 'The aesthetic is elegant but not overly formal,' interior designer Terri Brien explains of the Lulu and Georgia-approved trend. 'Think of it as layering in a subtle shimmer rather than overt sparkle.'

And since these details aren't necessarily a new trend, they have a way of feeling nostalgic, Terri tells me. 'There’s been a renewed fascination with colored glass lately, especially those reminiscent of Depression-era glassware, so it only stands to reason that we’re seeing a broader return of glass and crystal in holiday decor.'

With their presence alone, glass and crystal decorations in a room can make a space feel more elevated for the holiday season. 'Around the holidays, when natural daylight is softer and candlelight is more common, those reflective surfaces create a beautiful sense of glow, warmth and enhance ambiance,' Terri says. 'It’s a softer take on holiday glamour that feels intentional and classic rather than showy.'

‘I love to mix glass with texture – etched glass votives on a marble countertop, a cut-glass bowl filled with ornaments or seasonal fruit like pomegranates, or colored stemware mixed into a holiday table setting,’ Terri suggests for styling crystal decor over the festive season.

‘Even small touches like a crystal ornament hung on a velvet ribbon or a collection of crystal taper candle holders on the mantel can catch light in a way that feels seasonal and magical.’

Kelley thinks similarly. ‘Their ability to reflect light and give sparkle to even minimalist holiday decor displays makes them the perfect styling pieces for any type of space. For just a touch of sparkle, a crystal bowl on a coffee table can be a simple but nice addition for some holiday glimmer, while a display of several glass candlesticks across a mantel is a beautiful addition to any holiday display,’ she recommends.

‘The key is always restraint and balance,’ Terri explains. ‘When partnered with a mix of organic materials and metals, these reflective elements become timeless rather than trendy.’

If you are a traditionalist like me and like to stick to the classic looks for Christmas, this could be your one little nod to the holiday trends of 2025. Glass and crystal decor add subtle sparkle around the home and are so easy to implement in your tree decor, mantel decor, and of course at the table.
