If last year was about perfecting your patio, 2026 is all about giving it personality.
Matching sets and 'timeless' neutrals are stepping aside in favor of more expressive outdoor furniture trends – think playful silhouettes, stylish materials, and dining set-ups that feel as considered as any room indoors.
From bijoux bistro-style arrangements to upholstery and wrought iron details, outdoor trends are taking cues from boutique hotels and sun-drenched terraces. The result? Gardens that feel more like a destination in their own right – designed not just to look good, but to be joyful all summer long.

Woven wicker seating brings a timeless and authentic softness to this rustic outdoor living space.
That shift is showing up in everything from built-in banquette seating that mirrors relaxed kitchen dining to scalloped edges and gently waving forms that soften hard landscaping.
Color is making a confident return, too, with sun-washed hues and painted finishes bringing a sense of joy, while classic wicker and woven textures tap into that ever-enduring, Nancy Meyers patio ease. The overall effect is layered, inviting, and just a little escapist.
And perhaps most tellingly, there’s a distinctly European mood running through it all.
1. Banquette Seating
A built-in banquette with bold upholstery showcases the move toward more considered, indoor-inspired outdoor seating.
Borrowed from breakfast nooks and stylish restaurants, built-in banquette seating instantly makes a patio feel more intentional – and far more inviting.

It’s relaxed, sociable, and brilliantly space-saving, whether you’re working with a compact terrace or a larger outdoor dining area.
'We're drawn to outdoor furniture that feels as considered as anything you'd find inside,' says designer Sean Symington. 'We love a built-in banquette which gives a real sense of permanence and intention. And rather than buying a matching set, we'd always encourage mixing and matching as it looks far more curated and layered that way.'
This also allows you to play with the upholstered garden trend, too. 'Colorful fabrics for cushion seating and accessories are a big part of that, bringing personality and warmth to an outside space,' he adds.
2. Scallops, Wiggles, and Waves
Scalloped detailing and soft stripes add a playful characterful silhouette to this quiet al fresco spot.
2026 is embracing something altogether softer. Scallops, wiggles, and gently undulating forms are bringing a playful, decorative edge to patios and poolside setups alike.
'I’m absolutely loving scalloped outdoor furniture right now,' says interior designer Kathy Kuo. 'Whether it’s a dining chair, a poolside chaise, or a coffee table for the outdoor lounge area, scalloped trim gives furniture that little extra something to make it stand out.'
'And while scallops may be particularly popular right now, I don’t think this detail will ever really go out of style, so you can enjoy your scalloped furniture for many years to come,' she adds.
'Curved silhouettes are everywhere right now,' agrees Elana Tenenbaum Cline of Carta Creatives. 'They soften a space and make it feel more relaxed and inviting.'
The beauty of this trend is its versatility. You can go all in with statement pieces or introduce it more subtly through smaller accents. Either way, these softer shapes help balance harder landscaping materials like stone and concrete, creating an outdoor space that feels more inviting.
Curved lines make up a majority of Anthropologie's outdoor collection. With a light, decorative feel, this table is a subtle nod to the ‘wiggles and waves’ trend without overwhelming a scheme.
3. Colorful Furniture
Colorful furniture paired with classic stripes captures the shift toward more expressive, personality-led outdoor schemes.
After years of safe neutrals dominating outdoor furniture trends, color is making a confident and joyful return. For 2026, it’s less about fleeting pops and more about committing to furniture that sets the tone for the entire scheme.
'Colorful garden furniture brings a sense of optimism to a garden, especially when balanced with natural textures like rattan,' says designer Birdie Fortescue.
Laura Britt of Britt Design Group agrees, adding: 'We’re moving away from the standard black iron look and seeing more powder-coated furniture in unexpected, uplifting colors that instantly bring personality outside. We always love a strong indoor-outdoor connection, and we’re bringing the color outside.'
What makes this trend feel particularly fresh is how it’s being styled. Choose one or two dominant shades and build around them with complementary fabrics and materials. 'Layering is key: umbrellas, throws, towels, cushions, and pillows all work together to create that relaxed, collected feel,' adds Laura. Done well, it creates an outdoor space that feels charming to chill in.
4. Woven Wicker
Like something from a rom-com, the wicker furniture and soft neutral textiles create a nostalgic, collected look here.
Of course, wicker is nothing new in outdoor furniture. But rather than the overly polished, uniform sets of years past, 2026’s take feels softer, more nostalgic, and intentionally a little undone.
Think curved silhouettes, tactile weaves, and pieces that look as though they’ve been collected over time rather than bought all at once. This renewed appreciation for timeless wicker is part of a bigger pull toward heritage-inspired design.
'Wicker feels fresh again, taking on contemporary track arms or curvaceous silhouettes, and color seems to be warming up, with olive, sand, terracotta, and deeper browns replacing cooler grays and blues,' says Sherrell Neal of Sherrell Design Studio.
For example, in McGee & Co.'s outdoor collection, the look leans into layered textures, relaxed silhouettes, and that effortless wine country feel. Likewise, Olive Ateliers’ ‘The Sentimentalist’ collection is pushing wicker into a more romantic, nostalgic direction with darker brown tones and ticking stripe cushions.
5. Euro Summer
Bold stripes, wrought iron framing, and a scalloped umbrella channel the Euro summer aesthetic, bringing a resort-like feel to everyday outdoor living.
Rooted in the relaxed luxury of Mediterranean terraces and boutique hotel courtyards, the Euro summer trend is all about creating a space that feels like you've been transported on vacation.
As Kelley Mason of Lulu and Georgia explains, it’s about mixing pieces in the same way you would indoors. 'Wrought iron details and stripes inspired by classic garden awnings, (our Lanata Collection is a perfect example),' she says of the Lulu and Georgia new summer collection. 'The iron details feel like they belong together, but the design language is completely different – they complement each other, but don’t feel like a matched set.'
'Wrought iron pieces with a European feel to them are making a resurgence, as well as vintage forms like the clamshell and peacock chair silhouettes, but with a modern twist,' Aimee Meisgeier of AM Interior Design agrees.
Stripes play a starring role here. 'One of the most versatile patterns to bring in is the stripe, whether a bold geometric stripe or a classic ticking stripe,' adds Kathy Kuo. 'Choose upholstered outdoor furniture covered in striped performance fabric for a look that’s both highly durable and incredibly chic.'
To bring it home, lean into the details: terracotta pots overflowing with greenery, linen tablecloths, resort-style umbrellas, and plenty of cushions to soften the look.
Whether it’s a custom built-in banquette that mirrors your kitchen nook or a striped umbrella that instantly transports you somewhere sunnier, you can choose a big-ticket, big impact swap or some small accent pieces to help you create a more joyful alfresco space this summer.
