This frozen treat is my new go-to summer snack – it's so simple to make and it's perfect for serving at drinks parties

There's nothing that makes me crave sweet treats more than the summer weather. But to matter how many ice cream recipes I've tried, I always forget that fresh fruit can make the perfect frozen dessert – and this frozen grape recipe is my current fixation.

Whether you prep a batch to snack on during a hot afternoon or use a handful to garnish your favorite summer cocktails, frozen grapes are a crowd-pleasing (and, in my opinion, underrated) snack. Toss them in sugar for a nostalgic treat; add citrus for a sour kick; or get creative with chilli and salt for a South Asian-inspired savory twist. When it comes to this particular frozen grape recipe, there are loads of options to choose from to suit you, whether you have a sweet tooth or prefer a salty or spicy fix.

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch seedless grapes
  • Juice of half a lime
  • 1 tsp. lime zest
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar

Method

  • Place the grapes in a colander (I use these stainless steel colanders from Walmart) and rinse them thoroughly
  • Pat the grapes dry with a paper towel and transfer to a bowl
  • Add in the lime juice and zest. Mix to combine
  • Coat the grapes in sugar. You can do this by decanting the sugar into a small bowl and coating each grape individually with a spoon, but I like to pour the sugar into a ziploc bag, add the grapes, and shake it up until everything comes together. These reusable food storage bags from Target are my go-to
  • Now is the time to experiment with more seasonings if you like; I usually add lemon juice into the mix for an extra sour finish. If you want to try a savory option, go for half a teaspoon of chilli powder and a dash of lime salt (or tajin spice, if you have it)
  • Decant the grapes onto a lined baking sheet, or stick with a ziploc bag – just make sure that they can lie flat in a single layer. Freeze for around 5 hours, or overnight for best results.
