While we’re nesting at home for the foreseeable future, it’s the perfect time to search for interior inspiration for a spring refresh. The timing for the launch of the The Rug Company x Kelly Behun collaboration couldn’t be better, then.
Photographed at Behun’s ethereal apartment and celebrating the city she calls home, the Rug Company x Kelly Behun collection features three rugs drawing inspiration in both form and colour from the Manhattan cityscape.
‘When designing this new line for The Rug Company, I wanted to be sure the designs and colours could work in a multitude of spaces and contexts, while still maintaining a strong aesthetic point of view,’ said Kelly.
Exploring the transitional tones which seem to hover above her city’s skyline at sunset, the way the fading daytime blues blend with the arrival of tranquil shades of pink, are all masterfully captured in the silky colour shifts of Eclipse.
‘Rugs for me are such an important tool and critical component of any good interior,’ says Kelly. ‘They have the power to transform a space in a unique way, from a quiet swathe of texture that can warm up a room to a full-on riotous work of art underfoot. I love the way the silk and wool fibres take colour and translate the original design concept.’
The light that peeks through midtown’s iconic skyscrapers and floods the southern tip of Central Park with an ever changing tableau of cast shadows and a singular evening glow is highlighted in both Domus Blush (above) and Domus Grey (below). The varying pile heights and ribbed wool in this design are reflective of Behun’s cosmopolitan point of view.
Each rug is meticulously handcrafted from the finest materials in The Rug Company’s weaving houses in Kathmandu. Choosing a favourite is the hard part…
