Accent chairs are the easiest piece of furniture to help switch around a room – and Wayfair has the perfect collection
Wayfair’s selection of accent chairs incorporate all my favorite new trends, from swivel chairs to velvet looks, and they’re all so affordable, too
In my humble opinion, a living room is nothing without a good accent chair. Not only does it provide extra seating if you have guests over, but it can also tie together the entire theme of your room, while still providing an element of surprise by not fitting exactly in.
Take a minimalist, neutral living room for example you could have a similar, mid-century modern accent chair in an unexpected color for a pop, or you could use the same color scheme and go a completely different route with a modern round-back look. In my opinion, there aren’t very many rules when it comes to statement-making decor such as accent chairs, which is why I love them so much.
'A beautiful, well-chosen accent chair can transform your space into something truly spectacular,' adds H&G's Digital Editor, Jennifer Ebert. 'When choosing a design, consider how you would like to use the space and what functions you need it to perform most. If you have plenty of room, perhaps that means including one or two statement designs that will pull the whole scheme together, or simply curating a space around a singular standout armchair.'
Best Wayfair accent chairs for spring 2024
No matter which route you go, however, this spring, one of my favorite retailers, Wayfair, has a vast selection of new accent chairs available, from luxe velvet furniture to modern farmhouse vibes, and I’ve perused through all of them to find you my absolute favorites.
Was $206.99, now $177.99 at Wayfair
The best part about this chair isn’t its comfy tufted back or the sleek, supportive metal frame: It’s the fact that it comes in five material and color options so you can choose the best fit for your living room.
Was $224.99, now $199.99 at Wayfair
This chic velvet and gold combo brings a sense of glam to any space, and I love the open curved frame base: It’s so modern and on-trend.
Was $599, now $219.99 at Wayfair
This armchair has a sweet botanical print, but don’t let that fool you. It also brings the edge with a fun nailhead trim below both tufted arms.
If you’re as big a fan of mid-century modern style as I am, you’ll love the pretty rounded armed design and splayed legs this chair provides. It sits low in any room in order to command attention.
Was $399, now $234.99 at Wayfair
Ideal for small spaces, these faux leather armchairs include weaved accent details for a touch of modern farmhouse. Since they come in a set of two, you can even use them for a small dining table.
Was $399, now $195.99 at Wayfair
This sleek barrel chair takes inspiration from the seaside, with the back resembling an oyster shell found at the beach. It’s a dreamy look for a more whimsical living room.
Was $1,198, now $415.99 at Wayfair
These T-shaped, wingback chairs use sloping sides to make loungey chic again, and I love that they come in a multitude of shades to play with. My favorite is obviously the sunny yellow for spring, but you can even go the ivory or black route if you prefer.
Was $931.20, now $459.99 at Wayfair
This velvet armchair is wide enough for you to sit cross-legged in, and the velvet-tufted cushions exude comfort and warmth.
Was $1,150, now $719.99 at Wayfair
Taking a classic leather armchair and adding barrel curves and a swivel function is a fabulous way to make it modern, and I love that it’s available in two shades for easy matching.
Accent chair FAQ
How do you pick the best material for your accent chair?
You can trust Homes & Gardens.
I would suggest you consider how often you’ll be using your accent chair and for what purpose: This will help you determine which material to pick. For instance, high-use accent chairs focus on performance fabrics that are stain- and scratch-resistant, and you can also use leather and linen. If you don’t plan on using the chair very much, a luxurious fabric like a bouclé or velvet can add a touch of elegance to your space, but keep in mind that it might be harder to keep these chairs clean.
What height should your accent chair be?
It’ll depend on how much you want your accent chair to stand out, but as a rule of thumb, you should keep your accent chair within four inches higher or lower than your couch. You can always add or subtract even more height to really make a statement, but keep in mind that this could cause a bit of an eclectic look in your space – but hey, if that’s what you’re going for.
Whether you want something that’ll seamlessly blend into your living room or an option that will command all the attention, Wayfair’s selection of accent chairs are affordable and easy ways to elevate your space.
