The affordability and customisation available on the popular IKEA Kallax desk is not to be sniffed at, but I’ve found an alternative that comes fully loaded with five drawers as standard and I reckon it’s a storage hero prime for added function, especially in small spaces.

The Linze computer desk from Wayfair features five drawers, built-in LED lights, and a wide monitor riser to help you maximize your space by utilizing vertical and deep storage.

Why I love the Wayfair Linze desk over the IKEA Kallax desk

I took a look at the $50 Kallax when searching for a desk in my working-from-home setup, and although you can customize the two cubbies to the side with drawers or pull-out bins at extra cost, you can’t add a drawer in front of you. Plus, any monitor riser and lights will need to be bought separately.

A wide monitor riser from Amazon will cost more than $30, with some running up over $100, for comparison.

The Linze desk from Wayfair, on the other hand, has a lot of smart storage space, which, if you’re looking for stylish storage ideas, will help you make the most of the floorspace your desk will take up with adding items underneath or next to it.

Shoppers love it too, with verified buyer Oluwadamilola from Texas, rating it five stars and summing it up as ‘easy to assemble, strong bars. Beautiful LED light. I’m obsessed.'

Another happy customer, Michael, rated the desk as five stars too, adding that it ‘was a gift from me for my husband and he appreciates the quality and the setup of the shelf and drawers.’

If you like the concept but prefer further customisation or simply want to adapt your existing desk, here are a few options handpicked by our editors to help you maximize your storage space.
