Taylor and Tay Lautner Take Us Inside Their 'Girly, Colorful, and Peaceful' Nursery

The three words Tay Lautner would use to describe her and husband Taylor Lautner's new nursery are 'girly,' 'colorful' and 'peaceful.' Though the space is whimsical enough to appeal to an infant's developing brain, the room's energy is serene enough to feel like a sanctuary in the midst of new parents' busy lives.

Tay designed her dream nursery alongside the team at Pottery Barn Kids, combining floral patterns, ruffles and whimsical butterfly accents with timeless, functional furniture. From the convertible crib that transitions into a toddler bed to the glider chair, every element of the room is created to grow with the child, and the parents. Design and comfort go hand in hand.

'I wanted to bring in all of the frills and the patterns and give it that classic feel,' says Tay.

As design obsessives, one of our favorite details of Tay and Taylor's space is all of the clever nursery storage ideas. From the adorable rattan scalloped bins to the drawer sets, there is enough space to store diapers now, and toys as their child gets older.

Part of how they couple was able to balance calmness with childlike joy is by bringing in personality with the small details. For instance, floral crib sheets add a pop of color that feels so sweet, but doesn't overwhelm the white walls in the rest of the room. Blankets on the edge of the crib bring an understated softness to the room's tranquil color scheme.

The Merced Glider is one of Tay's favorite parts of the room. She explains: 'I chose this chair because I loved how it looked, but after getting it, it is so comfortable. We are going to spend a lot of time in this chair between nursing and soothing her.'

Furthermore, when rocking and storytime are no longer daily tasks, this furnishing can easily be used in other parts of the home. Tay states: 'I wanted something with a timeless feel that I could keep around.'

Though a baby's room needs to be comfortable for the parents, a child's room needs to be more oriented around independent play.
