Some kitchen upgrades are completed with paint, tiles, and nails, but this doesn't always have to be the case. Alec and Hilaria Baldwin's modern kitchen is the perfect example, which has interest added purely through textural accessories. The space is a beautiful example of how styling can be just as important when making a kitchen design truly shine.
The couple unveiled their white kitchen on Instagram, and it's a wonder of contemporary decorating. Hilaria and Alec have smooth, 'invisible' white cabinets topped with light wood countertops. The walls and kitchen island are also all white, for a reflective, light-filled look.
Natural wood adds warmth; from floors to countertops, its natural grain creates instant texture and interest. Gray curtains (like these from Kohl's) introduce textiles, while a faux orange tree adds a touch of bright, flourishing nature. In the background, a wooden dining table with clear dining chairs complete the modern look.
Though the base is simple, the Baldwins' modern white kitchen feels anything but sterile. With just these simple additions, they elevate their space. To explore the power of kitchen styling, here's a view into Hilaria and Alec's home, an edit of products I hand-picked to recreate their look, and expert commentary on how you can use styling to upgrade your own home.

These beautiful curved ghost chairs are fabulous because they are clear. This means that light streams through them, helping your modern kitchen feel bigger and brighter.
A faux tree like this one is perfect for creating style in your kitchen while avoiding the pesky issue of watering. It's three feet tall to add style to any space.
The Baldwins adorn their kitchen walls with a large family portrait in a wooden frame and this pretty one is a great option. It's large enough for a statement print and made of oak wood.
The best kitchen accessories are as beautiful as they are functional. This acacia wood piece, with its rich grain and smooth, sculptural form, works well for everyday use.
This sheer, textured curtain is the ideal neutral. Its slubby material adds a Mediterranean warmth to any room.
The sculptural and contemporary reinvention of the farmhouse table brings timeless elegance to the home. Available in three sizes to fit any space.
'As Hilaria and Alec's home shows, integrating houseplants is one of my favorite ways to upgrade a white kitchen,' advises Megan Slack, Head of Celebrity Style at Homes & Gardens and design expert. 'Accessories like an orange or olive tree have natural texture because of their leaves, and can add some height to a space with lots of clean lines. I recommend choosing either faux plants or plants that are easy to care for, like pothos, so that the look doesn't require an unsustainable type of maintenance.'
She continues: 'Curtain are also a great idea in a white kitchen. Though the Baldwins have chosen a solid gray design, you can opt for a range of colors or patterns to bring warmth into your space. Fabric instantly softens the smooth textures of a modern home, and can add interest depending on your pick.'

You don't have to sacrifice warmth for a minimalist color scheme or modern design. With the right styling, you can do both.
