By now, it's no secret that blue is going to be big in 2026, after Dulux announced the cooling, moody hue as its color of the year. That means we are taking notes starting now, and we have some fabulous inspiration from Amanda Seyfried's home.

The actor's designers, General Assembly, made her room into an oasis with its wood window shutters, statement plant, and, most notably, grayish-blue sofa.

The subtle shade of the sofa infuses the neutral space with some color, all the while contrasting the deep mustard of the vintage accent chairs that sit next to it. It's a designer-approved combination, and we can see why.

According to design insiders, pairing blues with neutral colors is a fantastic way to ensure a room is harmonious and welcoming, rather than cold or uninviting.

'Blues alone can sometimes feel cool or distant, but when paired with warm neutrals, such as soft beiges and earthy browns, they create the emotional balance people crave at home,' explains Magdalena Gierasinska, the head of product and displays at Barker and Stonehouse.

'This mix delivers the clarity and freshness of blue, grounded by the safety and warmth of natural shades. It’s a timeless pairing that works across living rooms, bedrooms, and even dining rooms. Balancing a rich brown or burnt orange sofa with a blue armchair or blue accent wall creates a contemporary, comforting, and warm space without overwhelming with either colour scheme.'

Light blues in particular provide the relaxing ambiance, which, coupled with cozy woods, make for a soothing living area.

'Pair a velvet sofa in light blue, balanced with a natural oak coffee table or boucle accent chair,' Madgalena suggests. 'This pairing brings together freshness, warmth, and texture in a way that feels both stylish and restorative.'
