There is much to consider when choosing the right sofa for your home – but fear not, Zooey Deschanel’s colorful couch is here to provide us with some beautiful inspiration. Now that the warmer spring days are shifting into early summer, it is the perfect time to refresh our interiors with a brighter look.

Embracing cocooning curves – this year's leading silhouette for sofa trends, prioritizing the importance of coziness and comfort, and finished in a beautiful bright blue upholstery, the design is a true celebration of the interior design trends that have been shaping our spaces, and – in our opinion – is the perfect sofa trend for 2026.

Let's begin with the color. Over the past few years, many of us have been taking bigger and braver risks when it comes to decorating with color in the home, moving away from prioritizing 'easy neutrals' such as gray, brown, and beige, in favor of colors with more vibrancy and impact. A colorful couch can make for a unique focal point in a room, and, if you're slowly starting to embrace more color in your home, choosing colorful furniture, instead of painting the walls, can certainly feel less daunting.

Zooey has opted for a couch in a gorgeous, bright blue finish, and Homes & Gardens’ editor and color expert, Jennifer Ebert, explains why this color choice is right on trend.

‘Although deep, dark blue shades such as navy and midnight blue will always remain a truly timeless choice for room color ideas, over the last year, we have seen a huge rise in designers and dwellers alike using more vivid and uplifting shades of blue across the home. In our analysis of what color is replacing navy blue, brighter shades such as cerulean blue and sky blue are definitely taking center stage as favored color trends.

Using these lighter and brighter blue tones can uplift a room with a more energetic and playful character, with this inviting palette working wonderfully across upholstery and furniture – not just for paint ideas.’

We are also obsessed with the shape and size of Zooey’s colorful couch design. A sofa is a place where you should feel fully relaxed and cocooned in cozy comfort. Sweeping, curvaceous silhouettes have dominated the furniture trends of 2026, creating more soft, casual, and welcoming seat spaces inspired by organic forms found in nature – much like the soft contours of a summer landscape.

Zooey's couch definitely pays homage to a classic, camelback sofa style, with the use of dark wood enhancing a more traditional feel, but the expansive seat space and free-flowing form appear perfectly contemporary too, establishing an elegant mix of the old and the new.

As shown by Zooey herself, this sofa creates the perfect spot to sit back and relax in – we're also loving the pink robe – an ideal accent color for blue, don't you think? When choosing the perfect sofa for your home, the right depth size can also make a big difference in how comfortable the overall seating experience is, as interior designer and founder of Andrew Martin, Martin Waller, explains.

‘Whether it’s indoors or out, comfortable seating requires pieces big enough to lounge on. A mix of both oversized sofas and chairs is key to making sure everyone gets a seat. Extra depth means that these seats will remain relaxing even with lots of people.’

With her cozy, cocooning, and colorful sofa, we think Zooey's choice ticks all the boxes and is the best couches we've seen in 2026.
