Colman Domingo's unorthodox bathroom walls are the best I've ever seen – the serene, textured design is going to be huge in 2025

As a celebrity style writer, I've probably seen thousands of bathrooms. It's rare that a bathroom really makes me stop and consider; but I could look at Colman Domingo's space forever.

The actor's bathroom idea features a bathtub surrounded by a striped tile wall. Domingo's tub itself is speckled cream, but the walls are much more exciting. Stripes in blue and turquoise flow into green with orange and yellow on the right for a bright pop. The impact is to create something that looks like a mural, but is able to withstand the wear and tear of a bathroom. My favorite part about the design is how unique it is. Though I've seen bathrooms with colorful tiles, I've never seen them arranged so artfully. The colors seamlessly flow into one another creating an inviting and tranquil effect.

One shade dominates, and Domingo's use of blue tiles is especially stunning. Nina Lichtenstein, Westchester-based designer states: 'Blue bathroom tiles on a wall evoke a sense of tranquility and elegance, transforming ordinary spaces into serene sanctuaries. The calming blue hues also evoke imagery of nature and water, reminiscent of tranquil oceans or refreshing mountain lakes. This connection to natural elements enhances the overall ambience of the bathroom, creating a soothing retreat for relaxation and rejuvenation.'

Luckily for those who love the look of Domingo's bathroom, it's not going away anytime soon. Lichtenstein explains: 'The use of blue tiled walls in bathrooms is gaining popularity and is poised to become a lasting bathroom trend. Blue is a classic color choice that transcends trends. Its association with water and nature makes it a perennial favorite for bathroom decor. Blue tiles come in various styles, from traditional ceramic subway tiles to contemporary glass mosaics. This diversity allows for endless creativity and customization in bathroom design. As interior design trends shift towards more serene and spa-like bathroom environments, the calming effect of blue tiled walls aligns perfectly with this aesthetic direction.'

Bathrooms are the latest space to turn into personal sanctuaries. Taking inspiration from spaces like Colman Domingo's bathroom, it's never been easier.
