Emma Roberts’ Cozy Vintage Kitchen Shows Why Neutrals Like Beige Can Be Just as Warm, Inviting, and Stylish as Bold Colors
Designed by Pierce & Ward, the farmhouse kitchen might be covered in neutral paint, but it couldn't be more inviting

I'm a lover of color, so if I were to choose my ideal kitchen color palette, I'd opt for a whimsical blue or yellow over a neutral any day. However, after seeing actor Emma Roberts' cozy kitchen, I'm convinced that beige can feel just as homely (and exciting) as any vibrant shade of paint.
Neutrals have had a reputation for being bland, but Emma Roberts' rustic vintage kitchen proves that the once-boring beige deserves a second chance. From the cabinetry to the ceiling, design studio Pierce & Ward hasn't held back on dousing the kitchen in the warm hue.
In fact, the neutral paint is what brings the room together; it's the perfect backdrop for the wood furniture and farmhouse decor, providing a refreshingly contemporary feel to a rather vintage space.

I'm obsessed with all the vintage decor in Emma's kitchen. It's what makes the room feel so inviting and homely. Luckily for you, it couldn't be easier to recreate with these country-inspired pieces.
With its deep green glaze and charming shape, this butter dish is hard to resist. For a true farmhouse look, pair it beside some vintage plates and bowls on your kitchen shelves.
You'll notice a powder blue vase on Emma's kitchen island, much like this rustic amphora from Pottery Barn. With a whimsical glaze and vintage shape, it'll give any kitchen a rustic, eclectic feel.
Emma has two rustic wooden stools in her kitchen, acting as seating around the kitchen island. The Randle bar stool is a simple but classic choice that will give any kitchen a contemporary, yet timeless feel.
As someone who always thought that decorating with neutrals was boring, I'm now prepared to admit that I may have been wrong. I can't think of a more fitting shade in Emma's kitchen. With its warm pink undertones, the beige hue gives the kitchen real depth and character. Despite being applied rather liberally, almost like color-drenching, it acts as a subtle glow that frames without overwhelming.
Helen Parker, Creative Director of deVOL, touches on the power of warm paints in the kitchen.
'The benefits are that color drenching achieves a very serene look and feel to a room, it feels cosseting and enveloping, especially when done in a rich, dark or moody paint colour. It is quite amazing how it changes the feel of a room, we have been so used to pale ceilings and woodwork and doors being picked out in a white/cream that this new drenching feels so much more opulent, it seems to make the room immediately have more impact.'

Undoubtedly a clever color choice, the paint pairs beautifully with the wooden accents. Wooden kitchens can sometimes feel a little old-fashioned, but by choosing a paler wood for the kitchen island and stools, the room is the perfect balance of old and new. The array of vintage pieces gives the kitchen small doses of color to contrast against the neutral palette and add to its homely, snug feel.
Touching on the vintage kitchen trend, Helen adds, 'I am seeing and loving kitchens that have a bit more personality, using old prep tables, dark wood, textiles, paint effects, and more muted colors.'
Emma Roberts' vintage kitchen has made me rethink neutrals completely. The space feels so inviting and cozy, proving that muted shades can be just as homely as more vibrant hues.
