While painting your kitchen cabinets can bring light and color into your space, there is something truly timeless about unpainted cabinets, particularly if you opt for a darker wood.

That's the cue we're taking from Gillian Anderson, anyway. The X Files and Sex Education star and author shared a clip of herself inside her kitchen, and we loved the natural, understated ambiance of the space. It's a kitchen cabinet trend that will all but certainly never go out of style.

According to design experts, dark woods are staples in the kitchen due to their versatility and inevitable elegance.

'Dark colors can have so many different nuances within them, as well as tones and tactilities that give them different character,' explains Mor Krisher, Head of Product Design at Caesarstone. 'They can be basic or sophisticated, daring or elegant, industrial or classic, traditional or modern.'

The connection to the natural world makes dark wood fixtures in design schemes from Japandi to organic modern. Above all, it comes down to bringing the great outdoors inside.

This material is powerful because it taps into inspiration from the natural world. Mor states: 'We turned our attention to the outside world, to the desert landscapes where natural stones are scorched by day and frozen by night, weathered by this endless cycle to produce the most wonderful patinas and textures.' Mor continues.

As we can see in Gillian's space, the result is calm yet contemporary. Its grounded yet elevated look will never go out of style.
