If your kitchen is a busy hub in the home, odds are you have considered (and reconsidered) organization methods. A go-to storage solution we can't get enough of? Vertical cabinets.

Take Jennifer Garner's kitchen: the actor recently posted a new instalment of her Pretend Cooking Show on Instagram, and I couldn't help but admire her tall, white storage cabinets.

When considering how to make the most of dead space in your kitchen, opting for vertical, closed cabinets rather than shelves is a fantastic way to keep a kitchen looking sleek and tidy.

According to interior design insiders, kitchen cabinets are one of the determining factors in a space's overall functionality and aesthetic, so opting for the right size is crucial.

'Your lifestyle should drive your cabinet choices,” Darren Watts, kitchen expert at Wren Kitchens, explains. 'If you have a lot of decorative items you’d like to display, open shelving, feature units, or glass-fronted cabinets are great options. But if that’s not important, or if space is limited, closed storage is often the better choice to keep things looking tidy.'

This is particularly true if you want to keep everyday items, such as dishes and appliances, out of sight while simultaneously within easy reach.

Darren adds, 'In smaller kitchens especially, too many items on show can quickly make the space feel cluttered.'

Practical features, such as wine racks or extendable worktops integrated into cabinetry, are also great additions.

'Material matters too,' Darren notes. 'If you’ve got young children, for example, you might want to avoid glossy finishes, which tend to show fingerprints. It’s not just about how your kitchen looks; it’s about how it supports your routine every day.'

With that in mind, outfitting your vertical cabinets with accessories like Lazy Susans, spice racks, or jars, is a fantastic way to ensure the inside looks just as uniform as the outside.

Whether you're looking to make use of dead space or are trying to up your kitchen organization game, vertical cabinets are an eternal winner in our books.
