Kyra Sedgwick says this $18 multipurpose grater is 'the greatest thing in the world' – she uses it twice per day
'Once you get it, you’ll never stop using it': This tool is the ultimate kitchen essential, and it's compact enough for even the smallest of drawers

It's not every day that a celebrity endorses a product that costs as little as a movie ticket – especially one that has the potential to change how you cook for good. Such is the case, however, with Kyra Sedgwick's favorite grater. It costs under $18 and is one of the few items the actress says she can't live without.
The grater in question, the Microplane Premium Classic Zester (available at Amazon), is a problem-solving product that cooks and actresses alike (case in point: Kyra Sedgwick) use every single day. Or, in Kyra's case, twice a day.
'Oh my God, this is the greatest thing in the world. I did one of those Rachael Ray–adjacent cooking shows about a decade ago, and they used this for everything from garlic to cheese to ginger. Once you get it, you’ll never stop using it,' Kyra shared in an interview with The Strategist.
Kyra shares that she uses it for grating everything from cheese to garlic, but its purpose feels unlimited. You can use it to create ground spices from whole hard cinnamon or nutmeg, or even shave a cork down to fit back into a bottle.
'I use it to grate Parmesan on pasta. I don’t have to cut garlic; I just shave it. It’s such a pain in the ass to shred ginger, and this gets everything shredded nicely and uniformly. It’s really easy to clean. I either hand-wash it or throw it in the dishwasher. I use it at least once or twice a day in my cooking. It’s incredible,' she says.
The possibilities are endless with Kyra's favorite grater: Whether you're grating Parmesan for pasta or removing burnt areas from the bottom of your cookies. Whatever cooking woes you need to solve, this can likely help. It's a staple of Kyra Sedgwick's and Kevin Bacon's kitchen for a reason.
Inevitably, the grater is so easy to use, as Kyra herself demonstrates from her and Kevin's wooden kitchen.
'Okay, so this is the microplane. This is garlic. You use this to grate things that you don’t necessarily want to spend a lot of time grating. So, do it like this. See that? Nice and easy, and clean,' she demonstrates in the video. The footage also reminds us of its compact size, meaning it'll fit perfectly into the most compact of drawers in small kitchens.

It's also worth noting that the grater is not the only kitchen essential to feature on Kyra's favorites list. She also loves this Bamboo Travel Utensil Set (available at Amazon), perfect for food on the go, whatever you're eating.
'This set comes with a fork, knife, spoon, chopsticks, and carabiner clip. I just put it in my purse and use it all the time if I get takeout. It’s the most amazing thing in the world if I’m on location or traveling and don’t want to bring heavy utensils or use plastic,' Kyra says.
'The bamboo feels good in your mouth, and it’s easy to clean. I mean, literally, bamboo almost cleans itself. It doesn’t hold bacteria. If you don’t have time to wash it with soap and water, you can just wipe i,t and it’s okay to use. I give it to everybody I know as a present.'
