Martha Stewart's basement is a masterclass in organization – recreate her clutter-free oasis with these 3 stylish and affordable accessories
The guru's Bedford, New York basement features bins, racks, and cabinets to keep all her belongings organized and looking visually appealing

All too often, basement storage rooms become disorganized catch-alls for our belongings. Martha Stewart makes it look easy with hanging racks, plastic bins, and wicker baskets. By keeping her simple storage solutions in mind, these extra spaces can become just as appealing (and accessible) as main floor and upstairs rooms.
In a post shared to the Martha Moments Instagram page, we can see some snaps shared from her storied, Bedford, New York property, and how she transformed her previously unfinished basement into a storage haven. It's giving us some great insight on how to organize a basement.
'During the home’s refurbishment 25 years ago, Martha excavated the foundation of the original home, whose basement was completely unfinished, with dirt floors and tiny, almost inaccessible crawl spaces,' the post is captioned. 'Martha transformed the space into a 2,600 square foot area designed for storage, laundry, and crafting. The basement features two large storage rooms, a large laundry area, a bathroom and a craft room, which has a very well-appointed wrapping station.'

BPA-free storage bins with lids are perfect for a storage room. They're easy to stack and pop to the side if you need breaks when adaptive pacing, which is especially important if you suffer pain, fatigue or dealing with an injury. These are sure to curb clutter.
This four-piece set of wicker baskets would work well for stylish storage in the laundry room, craft room, or storage room. Plus, they're on sale for more than half off.
A brass rail with hooks in your storage room is as much of a design feature as it is extra storage. This is available in multiple lengths and crafted in unlacquered brass that will naturally patina over time.
The main storage solutions Martha has opted for include professional-grade bakers racks with stainless-steel shelving, and custom-built screen storage units to keep screens off the floor between seasons. She notably makes use of wall space for storage, using wall mounts and hooks to store yarn and ribbons in her craft room for easy access.
She is also a fan of clear plastic storage bins, with many lining her shelves and proving just why these are a timeless classic. The stackability of these bins makes them excellent for organizing vertically, while their transparency is fantastic for easily identifying innards.
Additionally, woven storage baskets, an ever beloved form of home storage, make an appearance in her laundry room, which not only clears clutter but add textural interest to the space.
Martha shows us that with a few simple accessories, a basement storage space can be more than just a room for accessories; it can be as stylish as functional as you make it.
