Martha Stewart is the ultimate homemaker. This means that any (and every) tip she shares, I obediently take note of. So, when she recently posted a snap of the cozy corner nook in her home, I immediately made a list of all the vintage fall decor featured in the space so I could recreate the look at home.

While many think that decorating for fall consists of pumpkins and far too much burnt orange, Martha's nook proves that there's more to seasonal decor than stereotypical ornaments. In fact, tasteful vintage pieces can feel just as autumnal as all the obvious motifs.

Martha's fall-inspired nook is effortlessly tasteful. It feels seasonal without straying into the kitsch or tacky. The best part is, recreating the look at home is more than simple with these timeless pieces.

Decorating for fall without pumpkins is surprisingly easy, proven by Martha's chic corner. With just a few key pieces, she makes the reading nook feel sophisticated and fall-appropriate.

Interior designer Grey Joyner explains, 'I think that with all of Martha’s decor, she makes it look so effortless but still approachable and comfortable. This cozy corner looks like the perfect spot to curl up with a book, and while it certainly gives a fall vibe, it also looks like an evergreen space – simply switching out the florals and possibly the plates on the wall would give the space a whole different vibe.'

Grey adds, 'This is precisely the way that I love to decorate for fall. It isn’t over the top or in your face. It doesn’t scream Halloween but gives subtle nods to autumn through color, texture and pattern.'

To recreate the look, start with antique furniture, such as a vintage bronze table or a wooden style like Martha's. You want to source something with obvious patina to create that lived-in, cozy feel.

Then layer the piece with thoughtful details. Start with an antique brass tray and then create a floral arrangement using autumnal flowers. Martha fills her vase with some rather fitting orange dahlias, but other fall-flowering perennials will work a charm, too. Grey explains, 'Bringing the outdoors in is always the first step for me when I’m decorating a space for a season. What better way to represent the season than by incorporating what grows during that time? Dahlias bloom during the fall, and their structured organic shapes and the vibrant yellows and oranges make them the perfect florals for fall.'

To finish off the look, source some vintage ceramics to hang on your wall. Martha displays her collection of drabware in her corner, but other styles will work just as well. Grey says, 'I love these hanging plates because they provide the natural autumnal texture with the leaf design, but also such an approachable way to display art. And while we tend to think of vintage ceramics as being costly, I think going to a flea market and finding plates that you love is great! It’s about collecting and adding texture to a space and finding things that are meaningful to you. It’s also an easy thing to change out throughout the year as the seasons change.'

Martha's fall-inspired corner is so sophisticated and surprisingly simple to recreate. With an antique table, some vintage plates and a seasonal bouquet, you can channel Martha's signature heritage style and make any corner of your home feel cozy and fitting for the season.
