Zooey Deschanel’s sofa isn’t just a design choice – it's a testament to a color that's as trendy as it is timeless (especially for 2025)

It's the color that just won't quit: green has been making waves for the last few years as a statement color everywhere from the kitchen to the bedroom, and there are no signs of it slowing down.

Take Zooey Deschanel's living room sofa as proof. The actor's dark green couch serves as a focal point as well as a contrasting element against her white, painted walls, which feature a gold framed piece of artwork.

The combination of a metallic with a rich, vibrant color gives the space a luxe appearance – and experts say that decorating with green is the ultimate color choice of the year.

Design insiders say that darker greens harken back to the early 1800s, making them a staple in trends like Regencycore.

'Twenty-twenty-five is also the year of the Bridgerton Influence,' explains designer Tom Howley.

'Try deep, regal greens and a dash of nature-inspired pattern with a heritage feel. Think leafy William Morris prints and vintage Liberty florals. When in doubt, take a look at National Trust stately homes for inspiration. We may not all have a Bridgerton budget, but we can learn a thing or two about how to create beautiful spaces just by looking to the past.'

The presence of green in florals and plants is also a fantastic way to enliven a living space, all while making it feel more lush. Whether that's through live greenery or a floral-printed rug, this touch of nature can really elevate a space as well as make it look more vibrant.

With so many shades to choose from, green is truly cementing its place as a new neutral.
