The Chicest Designers Shop This Unexpected Store – I Finally Looked and Found the Perfect Nancy Meyers-Style Storage Ottoman
One trip to TJMaxx led me to the most charming way to streamline a small room
Don’t get it twisted: Nancy Meyers’ iconic interiors are collected. Textiles abound, as do vintage brass table lamps and stacks of books, but messy? They are not.
It’s a fine line. Fortunately, I did just find a solution-of-a storage ottoman from TJ Maxx that could have been plucked straight from the ‘grandma chic’ Hamptons home in Something's Gotta Give (2003), offering a spot to disguise the less-than-cinematic necessities we all own beneath a veil of antique-inspired florals.
This skirted storage ottoman features a cushy, removable top that doubles as extra seating, a place to prop up your feet, or, with a tray on top, a side table – all while lending an unmistakably Meyers-ian softness to any room.
But the most interesting part is actually where I found it: TJ Maxx, a retailer I’ve since learned – after interviewing interior designers on the topic back in February – they secretly keep in regular rotation.

If you’ve ever wandered the aisles, you know TJ Maxx is the ultimate treasure hunt. Its ever-changing inventory is packed with big-name brands, and chances are, you’ll never come across the same gem twice.
Suffice it to say, I’m ordering one of these ottomans ASAP: to stash the throw blankets I no longer need on display, the tangle of cords from my growing collection of portable lamps, even bulky off-season cushions – none the wiser to guests as they take a seat in my small living room.
After all, every Nancy Meyers home has to keep its secrets somewhere.

I couldn’t resist perusing a little more at TJ Maxx – and I’m glad I did. Absolutely awash in Nancy Meyers-style ottomans for every living room.
With its softly pleated skirt, this round storage ottoman feels a little more tailored, but no less romantic. I can already picture it tucked beneath a petite vanity or writing desk. It also arrives in the sweetest denim blue.
Fine, this may not technically be an ottoman, but I can’t resist the scalloped silhouette of this timeless toile de Jouy storage bench. It would be lovely at the foot of a bed, hiding spare linens, sweatshirts, and the like, or lining an entryway as an elegant place to sit while removing your shoes.
There are no hard edges in Nancy Meyers’ cinematic universe, so an X-shaped ottoman like this could easily read too severe. But wrapped in plush upholstery and finished with contrast piping, this version feels right at home.
