Nate Berkus Brings Back His Iconic Rugs USA Designs – With One Sneakily Impactful Change We Can All Learn From
No trend-chasing here. The expanded shade selection offers an easy autumnal transition without sacrificing a timeless look
Often, there is no silver bullet: no one supplement to make us more beautiful, no one single sofa to completely change a room. But, according to Nate Berkus, if there is anything approaching a divine design intervention, it’s color – which is why he didn’t actually change his already-iconic, heritage-inspired designs for Rugs USA; he simply swapped the shades.
To aged cabernets. Creamy beiges. Sage greens and golden browns – organic tones that feel freshly grounding for rug trends of 2026, and especially as we gear up for autumn. ‘The colorways in this collection have been reimagined to be richer, deeper, and more expansive,’ says Nate.
Because the rugs were so good already – maybe we don't need to run the hamster wheel for a more apropos room after all. ‘Updating the colorways was a way to honor the original inspiration while making the pieces feel even more relevant for how we live today,’ he adds. No bells, no whistles. Color is the perfect facelift: just enough to shift a room without disturbing its je ne sais quoi – which, for Nate, translates to timelessness.
The same mid-century-modern bordered design, the same soft, cozy feel – now in a more delectable Mahogany colorway, where the original’s low-contrast beige gives way to a richer hue that pops exquisitely against the existing ivory details.
You might recall last September, when he launched the classics: the low-pile, high-traffic-friendly Yves Bordered; the softer, mid-century-inspired Serge, hand-tufted in soft wool; the flatwoven Dowling Plaid – to name a few.
The collection was always intended to be trend-resistant (Nate has actually told us he is ‘famously anti-trends’), so, really: why would there be a new look to follow just under a year later?
It’s a move that feels authentic to his owned-object-only ethos, but also an important lesson as we plot our seasonal transitions. We don’t need to try so hard – sometimes one shade switch is all it takes.
The colorways say 2026, but the designs? They could live anytime, anywhere.
