Meet the $33 Shatterproof Solar String Lights That Are the Outdoor Hosting Upgrade Everyone Needs This Summer

This Prime Day find casts a dreamy glow, withstands severe storms, and keeps your patio in a constant state of dinner-party readiness

Solar string lights are enchanting – right up until the first clap of thunder. Yet most of us continue to decorate our patios as though the weather forecast is merely a suggestion. The problem isn’t string lights (I honestly wouldn’t host an alfresco dinner party without them). The problem is the string lights that can’t survive summer.

Fortunately, there is a sturdier option. I just found a commercial-grade solar string light set(currently discounted for Prime Day), built to withstand winds up to 50 MPH, complete with shatterproof PET plastic bulbs and a weatherproof construction that makes it suitable for far more than fair-weather entertaining.

A late-July thunderstorm is one thing, but these are the sort of garden lights you could leave up through January snow without a hitch.

After all, if they’re designed to light up restaurant patios night after night, your annual seafood boil should be a walk in the park.

Since you never need to take them down – or remember to charge them, for that matter – these solar string lights make it easy to keep your patio in a constant state of dinner-party readiness.

This solar set impresses down to the details. A remote control allows you to cycle through four brightness levels and two timer settings, giving you complete control over the evening’s mood. (I prefer to begin bright and gradually dim things down as the night unfolds.)

And should a streak of overcast weather leave the solar panels with little to work with, there’s a backup plan: Type-C fast charging.

Could you spend less on a similar-looking set? Certainly. But when storm season arrives, the difference between ‘weather resistant’ and genuinely weatherproof becomes abundantly clear. Only one will actually survive. Personally, I’d rather spend my summer hosting beneath the glow than sweeping shattered bulbs off the patio the next morning.

More Solar String Lights

Should your outdoor aesthetic skew a little more rustic, modern, or whimsical, here are a few other solar string lights that caught my eye while browsing the Prime Day sale.

Amazon Prime Day runs through the 26th, but the platform's best solar lighting rarely lasts for long. If you aspire to a permanently dinner-party-ready patio, take a look at Amazon’s wider selection while the discounts last.
