FAQs/tips
If you're new to shopping at antiques fairs and vintage markets, there are a few things you need to keep in mind. While the atmosphere is unrivaled and finds utterly unique, it's important to come prepared.
Firstly, if you're looking for specific items for your home – especially furniture – make sure you've measured (preferably twice) the areas the furniture will go. This way, you won't run the risk of purchasing a stunning antique that ends up being too big or too small. And make sure you have all of the measurements written down!
Then, once you've arrived at the market, ensure you have a measuring tape handy to take all the measurements you need for the furniture you are interested in. We promise, dealers are very used to it, and almost always encourage it!
It's also important to always take cash with you to antique and vintage sales. A lot of vendors won't accept card payments – some events even only accept cash for the entry fee, so make sure you've visited an ATM prior to avoid any disappointment on the day.
Finally, make sure you consider how you will carry your purchases. If you're planning to buy large furniture items, take a large vehicle, or arrange a van to collect your items. It's useful to plan ahead with this, but some dealers will handle delivery for you, while other events allow vehicles to arrive on the day – but always check with organizers first.
Or, if you just want to buy smaller decor pieces, take a large tote bag with a comfortable strap, or take inspiration from the antique shopping pros by taking a shopping wagon. It will allow you to stack up more items while being able to transport them easily.
This Heavy Duty Outdoor Utility Cart from The Home Depot is easily collapsible for storage and even features bottle holders, while this Foldable Cart with 220LBS Capacity from Amazon has extra-large wheels, perfect for uneven terrain.
Whether you're an avid antique market attender or just starting an antiques collection, these sales are the perfect places to shop. and if you're guilty of buying without thought, keep an eye out for the collectibles interior designers look out for when antique shopping – they always prove timeless, so you won't regret buying them.

I’ve worked in the interiors magazine industry for the past five years and joined Homes & Gardens at the beginning of 2024 as the Kitchens & Bathrooms editor. While I love every part of interior design, kitchens and bathrooms are some of the most exciting to design, conceptualize, and write about. There are so many trends, materials, colors, and playful decor elements to explore and experiment with.
