Whether you're enjoying your current reading rotation or taking some time to slow down a little, enjoying the comfort of a reading nook is a simple pleasure that feels particularly special come springtime.
While a truly well-designed room is suitable no matter the time of year, there's no better feeling than spending time in a space that allows you to take in the delights of the season. From a window seat overlooking a grassy field bursting with fresh blooms to a cozy corner made seasonal with a handful of vibrant peonies in a vase, you can transform any empty corner into a scenic spot with some clever styling and charming spring decor.
The perfect spring weekend project, designing a spot you gravitate towards all season long starts with carving out a neglected corner and filling it with refreshing uplifts.
Article continues below1. Style Around Your Seating
A vintage armchair, rustic wooden stool and woven rug transform this nook into an intentional space designed to be enjoyed all season long.
While designing an entirely new space sounds laborious, all you need is a handful of hero pieces to create a spring reading nook out of an underused space.
A place for rest and relaxation, the most obvious reading nook mistake would be leaving out a comfy armchair. The focal point of any nook, some form of seating is crucial when designing your nook, whether that be a vintage bobbin chair you've sourced second-hand or a more permanent built-in banquette that slots into your living room corner.
Styling around your seating will make it feel seamless with its surroundings. A rustic wooden stool, like in the nook pictured above, will provide you with a place to prop your vase of seasonal flowers or your current book. A footstool would bring an added layer of comfort, matched by a light rug, such as a textured jute or an embroidered floral kilim.
2. Bring In Soft Lighting Source
This cozy window seat receives ample natural light during the day, while the metal lamp with a pink shade brings a warm, peachy glow come evening.
Lighting has the power to make or break any space, but when it comes to designing a spring reading nook, it couldn't be more important. Ideally, your cozy corner will already be light-filled and overlooking a scenic view, but you still need a light to read by, plus adding a pool of light can help make the area feel more like its own zone.

For spring, look to whimsical shapes and seasonal materials – a rattan table lamp or a floral shade. At this time of year, you want to avoid dark hues and heavy materials (leather, velvet, or thick cottons) and opt for styles and patterns that feel refreshed and aligned with the season.
3. Layer Seasonal Prints
Cheerful yet refined, this idyllic window seat, designed by Georgia Tapert Howe, features Sarah Vanrenen's Berri Yellow wallpaper and a matching roman blind.
While interior designer Georgia Tapert Howe chose a sunny floral wallpaper to adorn the walls of this charming reading spot, there are smaller, equally impactful touches that truly bring the space to life.
'Pillows are always a great way to make a space feel more seasonal,' she explains. 'A reading nook is inherently a cozy space, so maybe it's the spot you gravitate to on a rainy summer day. Or perhaps in the summer you have a lightweight linen blanket, and in the winter you have a heavier wool throw in the space.'
'We really leaned into the colors of the wallpaper,' Georgia adds. 'I think the stripe on the cushion is a nice juxtaposition to the floral pattern of the paper. Don't be afraid to mix patterns. A stripe and floral in the same palette make for a really great combo!'
4. Add In a Bench
Kat Bailey brought charm into this cozy reading room with block-printed throw pillows, wicker baskets, and vintage furniture.
'This was unused space in our client's home, and we wanted to create an area they would actually enjoy spending time in,' explains interior designer Kat Bailey. 'We added the built-in bench to add functionality and introduce a softer element to the room. We added hooks for a drop zone and built out a shelf above for styling.'
'For spring, it's all about bringing the lightness that comes with the season,' says Kat. 'Simple changes to decor are the easiest and most affordable way to bring in the spring. For example, try swapping in a softer-toned rug to lift the palette without losing warmth. Never forget organic touches – like branches or greenery – when styling your spaces. For this nook, the tulips bring life and seasonality.'
To recreate it, start with a defined seat (a bench or daybed), then layer in: a few mixed cushions, a small, flexible surface like a stool, functional pieces that double as décor (like the woven bag). Don’t forget the wall – the shelf, art, and wallpaper make the nook feel immersive. It’s not just a place to sit, it’s a complete little moment in your home.'
5. Enrich Your Nook With Spring Colors
Powder blue paint is the perfect backdrop for this cozy reading corner designed by Studio Percale.
Color and paint are a guaranteed way to inject a reading nook with character, and choosing an uplifting spring-inspired color is a good idea no matter what the time of year.
'This space was originally an under-utilized Victorian middle room that primarily served as a thoroughfare,' says Lindsey Bean-Pearce of Studio Percale. 'We reactivated the room by leaning into its use as a sanctuary for reading and music. We chose Edward Bulmer's French Blue to color-drench the space, ensuring the focus remained entirely on reading and listening to music.'
'Consider how often and at what times of the day you will use it; this will help guide your color choice,' adds Lindsey. 'This room has no natural daylight and is used primarily in the evenings, so we chose a color that would suit that and one they loved. We broke up the solid color by injecting patterns in similar tones to the rear of the shelves, the armchair upholstery, and the hearth tiles. The all-over blue creates a cocooning effect while the pattern brings interest.'
